Paired with a steak sandwich. Pours solid black with and half inch creamy white head. Smells like chocolate and coffee. It also smells fruity, plums maybe. Tastes oakier than I would have guessed from the nose. A bit astringent. Bourbon-like flavors are present, especially before it has had time to warm. As it warms the chocolate malt comes out more and so does a lot of a vanilla from the oak. A good amount of hop bitterness is present to balance the whole thing out. All around a really good beer.

On tap at the brewpub.
The beer pours a dark brown to black color with an off-white head. The aroma is heavy on the oak with some chocolate mixed in. The flavor is more of the same. I get a lot of chalky chocolate as well as a ton of dry oak. There is also a good amount of chocolate mixed in to the flavor. I don't really get too much whiskey in the flavor or aroma. Thin to medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Appearance - a dark ruby red brew, a light spray of bubbles on the surface. Some wispy lace, not much.
Aroma - a nice roasted grain with a lurking nose of bourbon.
Taste - solid roasted grains to start, followed by a woody, vanilla, bourbon flavor. Nicely done and not overly hot abv-wise. A good blend of flavors. Late chocolate notes round things out.
Mouthfeel - it could use more body, it comes across light in this area. Carbonation is average, giving this a boring mouthfeel.
Drinkability - overall, a fine creation here, one of the best in the bunch.

Pours solid black with a creamy thick brown head. Smell is sweet bourbon, but not alcoholic. Taste is smooth and creamy but not too full bodied. Predominantly bourbon flavors with a bit of roastiness in the finish, but not as much as expected. Aftertaste of bourbon lasts for a short while. Nice beer overall, but I'd like a touch more roasty stout character to balance with the bourbon. Still well done.
