Amazing blonde IPA. The hop here really reminds me of citra, and tatses so so phenomenal. It has a great hazy pale golden color and a big fat white head. Smells like a Rastafarian worship. Taste has some grapefruit and pine, to match its big dankness and make it an example to be replicated if you want to double or triple hop something to be in similar fashion

Poured from a 32oz growler into a Lost Nation pint glass. Big thanks to JBPortland for hooking me up with this--been wanting to try Oxbow for a while.

Pours a vaguely hazy straw-gold; a creamy finger-high off-white head lingers for 2-3 minutes before fading to a collar of foam around the edge of the glass. Sudsy, spotty lacing.

In the nose, muted pine sap, onion flesh, chive, musty grapefruit rind, wheaty malt, and subtle peppercorn mingle pleasantly. Hints of lemongrass and a faint bready yeast. Pleasant and different enough to leave an impression, but understated--I need to practically stick my nose into the glass to get a real whiff.

The taste, however, is much more lively. A much stronger pine sap presence, as well as sweet Maui onion, fresh-cut grass and fresh-picked chive all appear prominently on the front, while a modest grapefruit pith note appears mid-palate alongside subtle cracked pepper, lemon zest, and bready yeast. Finishes with grapefruit pith, pine needle, and what I'd swear is a faint chili-like spiciness.

Mouthfeel is light and refreshing. Despite the heavy pine presence on the palate, Freestyle 24 does not feel sticky or oily in any way. A very faint peppery tingle is evident on the lips, otherwise this is a clean and easy-drinking beer.

On the whole, Freestyle #24 is an impressive hybrid beer that manages to nail characteristics of the saison, American IPA, and kolsch without truly embracing any of the conventions of these styles. I look forward to my next opportunity to try some of Oxbow's offerings--this one was a winner for me.
