Like many other reviewers I have driven by the Bavarian Lodge countless times without giving it the time of day. We had been there briefly in 2003 and had the usual sort of German beer thing, but that was back then: things have changed. First time in recently was at the back end of a beer road trip. I was a bit skeptical at first, but one glance at the beer list changed my mind. That was a fairly brief visit; we returned less than a week later for a more thorough road test. It's not often you get stunned by a place, certainly not in Lisle, but the Lodge scores heavily on all counts. First it is super value. That night, Bell's Fauxberon at $3 a pint; we also noted the other prices were very competitive. Food is wholesome, tasty, filling and great value. It does have that dark woodsy lodge ambiance, and we found it pleasant and welcoming. I was left wondering how this had escaped me all these years. Fortunately there is still time to make amends. It's no Map Room but for a little town in the 'burbs it is pretty darn close. (1,036 characters)

Friend brought me there because they had Arctic Panzer Wolf on tap (operative word "had"). Glad it they we out and although the were quick to offer a Revolution Anti-Hero there was no need. I could think of no bigger insult than to drink an IPA in this place. Not that it had a super authentic vibe but their German selection was outstanding and how could any one or two or ... not be washed down with bacon cheddar brat. (424 characters)

Huge list of beers. Beers are from all over including Germany, Belgium, the UK, and the US. Very authentic German food as well that is absolutely amazing. Don't go here expecting to watch a game on tv because there are no tvs. This place is all about the beer, food, and décor. (282 characters)

The beer selection itself should rate this place a 10 but if you're looking for authentic German/Bavarian fair this place is the tits! (134 characters)

Finally stopped in here after a quick jaunt to Solemn Oath down the street (a ways). It appeared to me as a fairly generic-ish German-style restaurant for the most part, and I immediately took a seat at the bar, as is my wont. Plenty of vintage posters and beer paraphernalia on the walls surrounding the winding wooden bar. The tap list was pretty lengthy and a good, healthy mix of the usual stuff, local goodies, and some harder-to-find taps. In addition, I spied a bottle of the Aecht Schlenkerla liqueur on the shelf, but its rarity and cost precluded me from a tiny sample (fair enough, if disappointing, but at least the bartender let me down easy). Speaking of which, the bartender was rather amicable and certainly seemed to know a decent amount about his wares, or so I gathered from some of his banter with fellow bar-sitters. I can't comment on any of the other staff, but the general atmosphere definitely leaves me with a greatly positive feeling. I also can't comment on the food, as I was only here for a couple drinks, but the plates I spotted from a distance looked and smelled pretty good. Prices seemed on par with the general area, at least for the beers. Overall, this place certainly lives up to its lofty reputation. If I lived anywhere closer, I'd be here as often as time, money, and ability would allow. Alas, I'm too far to the north... Oh well, at least I was able to finally take in what many others have before me: Bavarian Lodge kicks ass! (1,483 characters)
