This, in my opinion formed by attendance to a limited number of establishments, is a world class place for Beer Advocates.

I went there while visiting family in Lisle after finding them online while searching for Spaten Optimator on tap. I could not believe it when I discovered that the place was right there in Lisle and got confirmation that my favorite beer is on tap there with a quick phone call.

A classic german looking exterior, a sign on the door stated that an impending annual vacation by the owners will mean that the place will be closed for that amount of time. Loved that. Luckily, the vacation was set for the week after my visit.

There is a very large bar with many many taps near the back. The best part about them is the caliber of those beers is the highest of any bar that I have been to. Of course my beloved Optimator but also many others (were there 20?) that were equally difficult to find on tap.

The restaurant side of the place features heavy wooden furniture and a very pleasant, smoke free feel.

The service was excellent. I was high maintenance, asking if they had any Optimator glasses after proclaiming my enthusiasm for the Dopplebock. I wanted to purchase one or more if I could but alas, they were not for sale. I ordered and our waiter brought me an Optimator Stein and my experience was complete!

Selection, as alluded to above, is certainly exceptional. They have a large quantity of high alcohol content beers on tap and I received an education in different types of rare on tap beers while there.

The food is exceptional. Do yourself a favor and visit there when you are VERY hungry! You will be glad that you did from the wonderful homemade bread to the authentic sausages and other heavy, satisfying food. I think that I had 4 slices of the incredible bread which really filled me up before my dinner but I do not regret it since I still can recall how good all of the food was. Everyone in my party was significantly impressed with their food.

The value is reasonable since this is such a rare find (all of these beers on tap in one place)

If you are anywhere near Lisle check this place out. This is a world class establishment. I will be returning on Easter weekend, 2008.

Friend brought me there because they had Arctic Panzer Wolf on tap (operative word "had"). Glad it they we out and although the were quick to offer a Revolution Anti-Hero there was no need. I could think of no bigger insult than to drink an IPA in this place. Not that it had a super authentic vibe but their German selection was outstanding and how could any one or two or ... not be washed down with bacon cheddar brat.

Huge list of beers. Beers are from all over including Germany, Belgium, the UK, and the US. Very authentic German food as well that is absolutely amazing. Don't go here expecting to watch a game on tv because there are no tvs. This place is all about the beer, food, and décor.

The beer selection itself should rate this place a 10 but if you're looking for authentic German/Bavarian fair this place is the tits!

Finally stopped in here after a quick jaunt to Solemn Oath down the street (a ways). It appeared to me as a fairly generic-ish German-style restaurant for the most part, and I immediately took a seat at the bar, as is my wont. Plenty of vintage posters and beer paraphernalia on the walls surrounding the winding wooden bar. The tap list was pretty lengthy and a good, healthy mix of the usual stuff, local goodies, and some harder-to-find taps. In addition, I spied a bottle of the Aecht Schlenkerla liqueur on the shelf, but its rarity and cost precluded me from a tiny sample (fair enough, if disappointing, but at least the bartender let me down easy). Speaking of which, the bartender was rather amicable and certainly seemed to know a decent amount about his wares, or so I gathered from some of his banter with fellow bar-sitters. I can't comment on any of the other staff, but the general atmosphere definitely leaves me with a greatly positive feeling. I also can't comment on the food, as I was only here for a couple drinks, but the plates I spotted from a distance looked and smelled pretty good. Prices seemed on par with the general area, at least for the beers. Overall, this place certainly lives up to its lofty reputation. If I lived anywhere closer, I'd be here as often as time, money, and ability would allow. Alas, I'm too far to the north... Oh well, at least I was able to finally take in what many others have before me: Bavarian Lodge kicks ass!

Great environment and German food about as close to overseas as you can find in Illinois. While the selection of beers wasn't overwhelmingly large, the quality was evident with no low quality brews. All of your typical German staples were there along with some other imports. What really makes this place special though, is their special casks that they frequently tap after aging various beers. Not only are these specials good beers to begin with, but their aging and tapping makes the final product one of a kind. Since their casks always rotate, you can expect to find something new every visit, I'll be back soon!

Great beer. Great food. Knowledgeable staff.

By far the best craft beer spot in Chicago's western suburbs. In the past, parking has been difficult, but they recently expanded parking spaces, remedying this issue.

They clearly have good relationships with distributors and brewers given the routine selection. Always a wide selection of local and american beers, and a deep selection of imported craft brews.

This spot is the tops. Likely the best bar in IL to enjoy a beer. Their selection is impeccable, and often unique. Their import drafts are not seen anywhere else in the Midwest, and sometimes no where else in the US. The atmosphere is cozy, rustic, warm, and inviting. The staff is passionate and knowledgeable on all aspects beer, and is friendly when asked about product (unlike some spots). The food is authentic Czech/Bavarian Fare, it can be very heavy, but it's exactly what you'd expect, and very well prepared. I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone, especially the beer lovers of this site.

As I am about to submit this, I'm hard pressed to think of a better beer spot that I've been to ever. And I've seen my share of gems.
