Been meaning to come here for a long, long, long, long time and finally made it out to Lisle for a wonderful dinner. Like eating in someone's basement, wood paneling and a bunch of knick knacks on the walls and around the ceilings. They also have massive massive portions of food here, great family style heaps of food. Had the sausage platter and might have been just a tiny bit too much food for me. The beer list is exceptional as good as one might find at Hopleaf and The Map Room, it really only seems to be growing everyday. Massive bottle list and a few gems available in the cellar, about 15 taps with some impressive variation. Considering this place is in the burbs it's quite amazing, a must stop, must eat and must drink. Would come back again and again I just wish it were closer.

Friend brought me there because they had Arctic Panzer Wolf on tap (operative word "had"). Glad it they we out and although the were quick to offer a Revolution Anti-Hero there was no need. I could think of no bigger insult than to drink an IPA in this place. Not that it had a super authentic vibe but their German selection was outstanding and how could any one or two or ... not be washed down with bacon cheddar brat.

Huge list of beers. Beers are from all over including Germany, Belgium, the UK, and the US. Very authentic German food as well that is absolutely amazing. Don't go here expecting to watch a game on tv because there are no tvs. This place is all about the beer, food, and décor.

The beer selection itself should rate this place a 10 but if you're looking for authentic German/Bavarian fair this place is the tits!

Finally stopped in here after a quick jaunt to Solemn Oath down the street (a ways). It appeared to me as a fairly generic-ish German-style restaurant for the most part, and I immediately took a seat at the bar, as is my wont. Plenty of vintage posters and beer paraphernalia on the walls surrounding the winding wooden bar. The tap list was pretty lengthy and a good, healthy mix of the usual stuff, local goodies, and some harder-to-find taps. In addition, I spied a bottle of the Aecht Schlenkerla liqueur on the shelf, but its rarity and cost precluded me from a tiny sample (fair enough, if disappointing, but at least the bartender let me down easy). Speaking of which, the bartender was rather amicable and certainly seemed to know a decent amount about his wares, or so I gathered from some of his banter with fellow bar-sitters. I can't comment on any of the other staff, but the general atmosphere definitely leaves me with a greatly positive feeling. I also can't comment on the food, as I was only here for a couple drinks, but the plates I spotted from a distance looked and smelled pretty good. Prices seemed on par with the general area, at least for the beers. Overall, this place certainly lives up to its lofty reputation. If I lived anywhere closer, I'd be here as often as time, money, and ability would allow. Alas, I'm too far to the north... Oh well, at least I was able to finally take in what many others have before me: Bavarian Lodge kicks ass!

Great environment and German food about as close to overseas as you can find in Illinois. While the selection of beers wasn't overwhelmingly large, the quality was evident with no low quality brews. All of your typical German staples were there along with some other imports. What really makes this place special though, is their special casks that they frequently tap after aging various beers. Not only are these specials good beers to begin with, but their aging and tapping makes the final product one of a kind. Since their casks always rotate, you can expect to find something new every visit, I'll be back soon!

Great beer. Great food. Knowledgeable staff.

By far the best craft beer spot in Chicago's western suburbs. In the past, parking has been difficult, but they recently expanded parking spaces, remedying this issue.

They clearly have good relationships with distributors and brewers given the routine selection. Always a wide selection of local and american beers, and a deep selection of imported craft brews.

This spot is the tops. Likely the best bar in IL to enjoy a beer. Their selection is impeccable, and often unique. Their import drafts are not seen anywhere else in the Midwest, and sometimes no where else in the US. The atmosphere is cozy, rustic, warm, and inviting. The staff is passionate and knowledgeable on all aspects beer, and is friendly when asked about product (unlike some spots). The food is authentic Czech/Bavarian Fare, it can be very heavy, but it's exactly what you'd expect, and very well prepared. I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone, especially the beer lovers of this site.

As I am about to submit this, I'm hard pressed to think of a better beer spot that I've been to ever. And I've seen my share of gems.

Been going here for about 5 years now. Atmosphere is definitely lodge feeling. The bar area is man's cave material, although women are welcome. One of the best tap lineups in the Western suburbs and always changing in a very positive way. No diets here...German/Hungarian/Austrian/Bavarian fare. Food is outstanding and great for large families or friends. Fun atmosphere and most people at the bar area are talkative and outgoing. I find the best time to go is before 6 and after 9:30. This place gets crazy crowded even week nights. Service in restaurant could get slow, so make sure to reach out and grab your server if you have to. Bar area is spot on and I've been seeing the same same staff for quite a while now. Bathrooms are clean. A definite stop over if you are from out of town and chasing down the latest craft on tap!

The Bavarian Lodge is my favorite place to grab a beer, and I'm lucky as it's only about 10 minutes from my house.

The Atmosphere is excellent inside. There's a bar area with a decent amount of seating at the bar, and then also a handful of other tables in that room. There's also a dining room that has a more traditional restaurant setting. It can accommodate a good amount of people, and during dinner hour it gets pretty crowded.

The Quality is perfect. They always have high quality beers on tap and in bottles, and the food is top-notch German food. I love eating and drinking here.

The Service is normally fantastic. Everyone that works there knows beer very well and can explain flavors intelligently, and they're also very friendly and helpful. The one negative thing I can say was moreso a specific incident, and that was during one of their Goose Island tap takeovers. They allowed people to go to the bar, so those people were given precedence over the orders coming in from the tables. It turned into chaos as everyone who went to the bar got BCBS variants before the taps kicked, but most everyone at the tables got shut out. They didn't respect the queue of orders as they came in. I hope they fix that next time.

You couldn't ask for a better selection. They have 30 or so taps and over 100 different bottles which include Trappist beers and some other special releases. They also have a great selection of German food.

The Food is absolutely delicious. The only downfall is that if you're not a fan of German food, this is not the place to come. They don't serve traditional bar food, although with appetizers like Bavarian pretzels, normally you can at least find something that you'd like.

If you're ever in the area, I highly recommend at least grabbing a beer here. You will likely not be disappointed.

This place is glorious. Great on tap beer selection that is rotated frequently. Very satisfying German food. A warm hearth and comfortable atmosphere. I like the fact that there are virtually no TVs or music. It's a great place to have a beer and conversation with a friend. And the food is outstanding.

We've been to the lodge many times over the years. If you want a fancy setting, this isn't the place. But for good beer, good food and good service - this is the place

Their beer list, on tap and bottled, is outstanding. The only problem is deciding to have an old favorite or try something new. Luckily you can have both!

The food is equally fantastic. The schnitzel is my favorite in the Midwest. Well worth the trip.

This is my go to place for a good beer and great service. The staff are knowledgable about their products and the food is excellent. This place throws some killer tap takeovers and doesnt an excellent job with servicing their customer base. My only issue is that they aren't open on Monday's or Tuesday's. I would frequent this place much more if they were open on those days. They have one of the best beer menus I have ever seen and they always have something new every time I go in there. The best thing about them is that they support the local breweries in the area and really help them spread the word. You guys are great and I really appreciate what you do for the craft beer community.

This is far and away one of my most favorite places to to get a beer and dinner with friends and family. but not for the faint of heart. I think the only thing that i have had in the way of food that i have not loved was the duck and that was more of a personal bias to expecting it to be more like duck confit. As far as the beer list goes, it is second to none as far as selection in both variety as well as quality of rare and old favorite beers. I did put "reasonable" for value, but if you are not into craft brew as much, you might see it as "a bit pricey". Overall I have been to Bavarian lodge with various groups of people, and each time if the beer list doesn't get them the food or atmosphere does. No place is perfect, but I feel Bavarian lodge hits it pretty close to the mark.

Come for the beer, stay for the food. I pay The Lodge a visit for dinner at least 3 times per month.

The draft beer selection is diverse and the lines are well maintained. The Lodge does a good business, so the selection rotates regularly. The dishwashers must be working overtime, because the staff always serves the beers in the correct glass for any given style.

The bottle beer selection is also excellent.

The food is simple german fare, but very well prepared. I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant.

Passed by this place for 15 years and never went in. Recommended to me by a fellow beer lover and went last night. Great selection of brews on tap that change all the time with the seasons and when new beers are released. Hundreds of beers on tap both local, regional and international. Did not have dinner but had an appetizer and it was very good. Very nice gem in the western burbs! They have special brews all the time and I really liked this place! I will be back again and again. Looking forward to going there for dinner and for those othernew brews that come from time to time.

Stumbled upon this gem via Yelp about a year ago and will continue to go back anytime I am in the area. Constantly changing taps and occassional casks make it a must.

The pretzel bread and cream cheese/herb spread are fantastic and if you like sausage they've got every kind imaginable.

They constantly update Twitter, FB, and BeerMenus with the new tap additions which is nice considering several others fall short with up-to-date social media.

The staff are very nice and knowledgable. I've been given some great recommendations each time I've visited.

This is one of the best beer bars in the Chicago area.

Last visit was a Wednesday night after work. Large lot with ample parking, but it does get very busy here. Elected to grab a table in the bar area and was promptly seated. Our server reviewed the food and beer specials and was very knowledgable. The Bavarian Lodge regularly updates their draft selections on BeerMenus and always has a few additional kegs on hand if something kicks during your visit.

Food is German, with a few Items that could appeal to those not in the Bavarian mood. Portions are large. Overall, the food compliments the beer selection and works well.

Plan a trip for the beer, you will be impressed.

Decorated in traditional German style, this restaurant has a wide variety of beers from all over the world and a menu that is equal in length and variety, including vegetarian options.

The meals can average over $10 for the entrees, but you get your money's worth and large portions as well. The staff are very knowledgeable about the beers they have available.

There are only two downsides: 1. they do NOT take reservations. Seating is first come, first serve. 2. They occasionally close for summer vacation and the Christmas season for about a week or so, so check their website first to make sure you don't head out to them and find they are closed for vacation.

This is a fine restaurant with lots of options, both beer and food wise, and will please anyone. I will definitely return here and encourage others to do the same!

This place is beautiful, amazing beer selection, great traditional German cuisine, and family owned and operated with great service. I have not encountered a better place in the west suburbs, the only one that comes close is Rock Bottom in Warrenville which is good but it's still Rock Bottom. For those afraid of German food, just get chicken schnitzel (essentially a friend chicken breast fillet without a bun) and a pretzel appetizer, then get the rest of your calories via liquid. It is a bit pricey but the portions are large and the beers are great. You will not go home hungry or thirsty here, but you're probably going to spend $50 on yourself for dinner and 3 beers. Then again, most decent places in the area probably charge that if you're drinking anything other than BMC.

The Bavarian Lodge in Lisle is an excellent place to grab a great meal with some phenomenal beers to accompany it! I have been several times, both for dinner and for just drinks, and I have never been let down by the selection either way. All of the traditional German cuisine is phenomenal, and their tap list is easily one of the best in the west suburbs. Every time I have been there the Lodge has had a nice mixed selection of traditional German, Belgian, and American brews, not to mention the wide range of styles typically represented, from German lagers to Belgian lambics to American and Russian Imperial stouts! The bottle list is definitely impressive as well, as I recall Rare Bourbon County Stout hung around for a long time after its release at $60, which is not an unreasonable markup from retail price. The food is a bit pricey, but for the portions served it is completely reasonable, not to mention absolutely delicious!

Anyway, now that I've rambled on, if you get a chance to stop by the Bavarian Lodge, either for dinner or just drinks, MAKE SURE YOU DO!!! Definitely will be worth your time!

Located in Lisle, Illinois, this place is quite randomly placed in the Chicago burbs. Fortunately for me, I grew up near here and am quite familiar with the area.

You definitely do not feel like you're enjoying some beers and a meal in the suburbs once you step inside this place. Great feel for a pub and I really like how big it is (main bar area, annex bar area, and proper dining room) - all seperate from each other.

The draft and bottle selections is quite robust and I was thoroughly impressed to see such a wide variety of beers available. From talking with the owner (his name slips my mind), they offer a wide variety of beer drinkers the opportunity to geek out here - from vintage surprise kegs to new releases they offer it all.

The food selection is awesome and amazingly authentic not to mention it tastes brilliant! The staff is very helpful in recommending beers and/or food for folks that are less than familiar with what they like. A must stop - definitely worth it!

This is by far my favorite beer bar in Illinois if not the the country. The food is great if you're into German cuisine. I realize it's not the most go to style of food but for sure give it a chance; however, the real reason to come here is the beer. They are frequently having takeover and release events that blow away anything I've seen other bars do. Even on a regular night their selection can't be beat and is constantly rotating. They update their twitter, facebook, and sites often so you always know what they have and won't show up dissapointed. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly as well as the clientele. You owe it yourself to check this place out, it's especially great sitting in the cozy bar on a cold winter night drinking the best beers the world has to offer.

I LOVE this place.

The food is incredible! If you are traveling through the area, do yourself a favor and stop here-- and even more so, order the "you pick 3" dinner... And pick the weinerschnitzel, kassler ripchen, and the vegetarian schnitzel. The sides are awesome as well.

The tap handles are pretty evenly split between European imports and North American craft-- They occasionally even have Cantillon beers on tap, which is a favorite of mine...

The place is split up: the bar on the right, and the restaurant seating on the left.
Important to note-- kids are welcome in the seating section but not in the bar.

I often bring my wife and sometimes a kid or two with me and the staff recognizes us and goes out of their way to make us feel welcome.

The food is amazing, the beer is delicious, and the staff is great-- what more could you want! This is a MUST STOP if you're in the area.
