The Bavarian Lodge is located in the middle of the burbs and you could miss it if you blink. It is an American/German lodge feel. Lots o wood and brass.

The service was prompt and knwoledgable. The food was good and typical of what you would expect from a good German place.

However, the beer is the true star here. They told me that they had 409 diffferent taps up last year. So they really get a good array of selection pumping through this place. They seem to focus on local (Stone, Jolly Pumpkin, Surly), Belgium (La choufe, etc), and German (Spaten, etc.) beers. They also have many speciality bottles that you won't find many other places. I saw many limited release beers in the bottle. Even though I am from the midwest I still found many beers I have never tried and few I have never heard of.

I would also like to note that they had 4 rare meads and several speciality spirits that you won't find many places on the menu.

This is a destination beer joint. If you are anywhere close to Chicago, you won't be disspointed with hitting this place. If you like German food it will be icing on the cake.

A must hit!

Friend brought me there because they had Arctic Panzer Wolf on tap (operative word "had"). Glad it they we out and although the were quick to offer a Revolution Anti-Hero there was no need. I could think of no bigger insult than to drink an IPA in this place. Not that it had a super authentic vibe but their German selection was outstanding and how could any one or two or ... not be washed down with bacon cheddar brat.

Huge list of beers. Beers are from all over including Germany, Belgium, the UK, and the US. Very authentic German food as well that is absolutely amazing. Don't go here expecting to watch a game on tv because there are no tvs. This place is all about the beer, food, and décor.

The beer selection itself should rate this place a 10 but if you're looking for authentic German/Bavarian fair this place is the tits!

Finally stopped in here after a quick jaunt to Solemn Oath down the street (a ways). It appeared to me as a fairly generic-ish German-style restaurant for the most part, and I immediately took a seat at the bar, as is my wont. Plenty of vintage posters and beer paraphernalia on the walls surrounding the winding wooden bar. The tap list was pretty lengthy and a good, healthy mix of the usual stuff, local goodies, and some harder-to-find taps. In addition, I spied a bottle of the Aecht Schlenkerla liqueur on the shelf, but its rarity and cost precluded me from a tiny sample (fair enough, if disappointing, but at least the bartender let me down easy). Speaking of which, the bartender was rather amicable and certainly seemed to know a decent amount about his wares, or so I gathered from some of his banter with fellow bar-sitters. I can't comment on any of the other staff, but the general atmosphere definitely leaves me with a greatly positive feeling. I also can't comment on the food, as I was only here for a couple drinks, but the plates I spotted from a distance looked and smelled pretty good. Prices seemed on par with the general area, at least for the beers. Overall, this place certainly lives up to its lofty reputation. If I lived anywhere closer, I'd be here as often as time, money, and ability would allow. Alas, I'm too far to the north... Oh well, at least I was able to finally take in what many others have before me: Bavarian Lodge kicks ass!

Great environment and German food about as close to overseas as you can find in Illinois. While the selection of beers wasn't overwhelmingly large, the quality was evident with no low quality brews. All of your typical German staples were there along with some other imports. What really makes this place special though, is their special casks that they frequently tap after aging various beers. Not only are these specials good beers to begin with, but their aging and tapping makes the final product one of a kind. Since their casks always rotate, you can expect to find something new every visit, I'll be back soon!

Great beer. Great food. Knowledgeable staff.

By far the best craft beer spot in Chicago's western suburbs. In the past, parking has been difficult, but they recently expanded parking spaces, remedying this issue.

They clearly have good relationships with distributors and brewers given the routine selection. Always a wide selection of local and american beers, and a deep selection of imported craft brews.

This spot is the tops. Likely the best bar in IL to enjoy a beer. Their selection is impeccable, and often unique. Their import drafts are not seen anywhere else in the Midwest, and sometimes no where else in the US. The atmosphere is cozy, rustic, warm, and inviting. The staff is passionate and knowledgeable on all aspects beer, and is friendly when asked about product (unlike some spots). The food is authentic Czech/Bavarian Fare, it can be very heavy, but it's exactly what you'd expect, and very well prepared. I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone, especially the beer lovers of this site.

As I am about to submit this, I'm hard pressed to think of a better beer spot that I've been to ever. And I've seen my share of gems.
