Pours medium brown with a thin tan head. OK retention, no lace.

Roasted malt, some light cocoa and nuttiness in the nose. A little mild.

Malt forward, with a little burnt bread crust, some toasted nuts, a little cocoa. Dries out. Less smooth than German versions; more toward the lean and bitter side. Finish is mildly bitter but fairly clean.

Lighter bodied. Solid carbonation.

Nice domestic version of the style. Drinkable and tasty.

Picked up a bottle of this at Julio's, poured into my Duvel tulip.

A - Pours a nice darker brown hue that is too dark to be seen through with a one finger dark tan head that fades slowly to a thin blanket, not leaving much side lacing.

S - Aromas of nice light smokey malts, caramel, dark chocolate, cocoa, faint malt sweetness.

T - Taste is loads of chocolate and caramel and malts. Like a caramel dark chocolate malted milk ball. Very faint coffee notes/bitterness. Like JLindros stated, almost like a mocha milk with the nice lactose, rich chocolate, light caramel. I get a nice roast note too.

M - Mouthfeel is lightly creamy with a lighter carbonation.

O - Overall, not a bad beer. Not oppressively smokey, which was nice, this instead focused on chocolate and caramel and lactose. Tasty.

No date that I can see. I think this is about 3 months old though.

A: Dark brown pour with a tall, frothy light brown head. Head fades out at a reasonable pace, leaving almost no lacing. Good retention however.

S: Chocolatey with a nice toasted malt that reminds me of pretzels.

T: More chocolate and a nice nuttiness now. Borderline chocolate/peanut butter. Really nice. More toasted malt with more of a toasted bread flavor now.

M: Medium-light with a nice crisp and refreshing mouthfeel.

O: A nice schwarzbier. It tastes like a schwarzbier mixed with an english brown really. Lots of nice toasted malt with some mild chocolate....but there's that refreshingly crisp lager smoothness too. Pretty simple but balanced, tasty and drinkable.

Bottle picked up locally and shared with the mrs in a jacks Abby snifter and torst wine glass.

Beer poured a watery black wi a thin head that didn't hang out and left sparse strongy lacing. Nose screams Schwartz with nice roast and subtle peat smokiness. Taste is a bit watery and subtle roast and smoke. A fairly drinkable smoke beer but still not something I would run out and get a case of, but perhaps a good gateway smoked beer since it is not too in your face.

Bottle from Andover Liquors
Pours a deep dark brown with ruby highlights and a decent sized tightly bubbled tan head that recedes rather quickly. Aromas of caramel and roasted coffee with a hint of cream and chocolate. Earthy spicy hops provide a hint of balance but confine themselves to background notes. The flavor is pretty heavy on the roast and caramel with only fleeting hints of chocolate. Earthy hop flavor keeps things from cloying. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a silky bubbly mouthfeel. Decent brew, heavy on the roast, but nice to drink.
