A dark pour with a bit of sweetness in the nose (with some smoke). This is a very pleasant schwarzbier. The smoke level is low enough to allow toasted malt flavors through.

A great example of this style. The smoothest and most pleasing of what can be a style not suited for everybody. Sweet with chocolate note and hints of coffee, Very smooth with no hoppy snap at the end.

Pours an inky-black to the naked eye (cola brown when held up to direct light) with a medium tan head.
On the nose there's prominent notes of roasted malt, light cocoa, and some smoke. Equal parts sweet and tangy -- reminds me of a dark, bitter chocolate.
Sweet, with heavy milk-chocolate and lighter bitter cocoa on the first sip, just the lightest touch of tanginess and astringency toward the end. Dry-ish on the finish with something like a "chalk"-like texture in the resultant mouthfeel.
Not bad. Lighter in body than the label would suggest, but on par for the style for the most part. Granted also that this beer is now retired and thus an older bottle, but it's held up in the 'DBF' very well.
Pretty good overall.
Thanks to BA gory4d for the opportunity to finally try a Jack's Abby brew.

Smelled like a bowl of oatmeal. Dark, oaty, sweet. Aged for a year or so. I was socializing with friends while I was drinking it so I didn't feel like it was appropriate to excuse myself to delve nto my phone to write a review. That's the type of behavior that perpetuates a negative (read:hipster) image of us beer geeks amongst those who don't populate this site. Unfortunately, I don't remember all the nuances and flavor notes now that I have time to be on my phone. However, BA won't let me simply add the beer to my list in a manor that allows me to simply remember how much I liked it or not without writing a review. So here's the review... It would be nice to be able to use this site in whatever manor I choose. I've added over 600 beers to my list, and visit the site daily. I rate them in a way that allows me to keep track and remember my overall impression of it without having to major in English literature, especially when I'm with company- which is the best way to drink good beer-- and the worst for being sucked into your phone.
