A: A dark brown beer with good clarity that pours with a finger of creamy, beige foam. It has good head retention and leave some lacing on the glass.

S: A roasty, dark malt nose with light notes coffee and chocolate. A low sweetness and no hops.

T: There are moderate flavors of coffee, roast and a light chocolate flavor. A moderate hops bitterness against a moderate malt flavor having a light, clean sweetness making for a balance that is about even. Very little hops flavor. A finish that is medium and a roast malt and coffee aftertaste.

M: A medium-full bodied beer with a medium amount of carbonation.

O: Coffee, roast and chocolate dominate this easy to drink full bodied lager. A very good and very tasty example of the Schwarzbier.

Poured into imperial pokal; brown in the glass showing deep garnet in the light.
Smells of crackery malt, dark bread and grassy hops. Light notes of cocoa.
Taste is dark bread and cracker malt, smooth with light cocoa sweetness. Finishes wet but clean with some crisp hops.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied but clean and smooth.
Overall a tasty schwarzbier. More body than others I've had.

A great example of this style. The smoothest and most pleasing of what can be a style not suited for everybody. Sweet with chocolate note and hints of coffee, Very smooth with no hoppy snap at the end.

16.9oz bottle poured into a snifter.

A: Pours a clear dark brown appearing black in the glass with a slightly yellowed head on top. Leaves some nice lacing on the side of the glass.

S: Chocolate and roasted malts are the first thing I notice on this one. Biscuity or bready quality to it reminds me that it is a lager. Has a good nuttiness and a touch of dark fruits.

T: Nice blend going on here with a great flavor I think anyone could pick up and drink. Roasted malts come through very well and compete with a decent dose of chocolate flavor.

M: Light to medium body with a creamy mouthfeel. The finish is perhaps thin but one must keep in mind its low ABV and lager roots.

Overall this is one I would pick up more often if it were to be available. Combines the serious malt bills from the Evil Twin beers with the great lager aspects of Jacks Abby. Give this one a shot.

My first experience with Jack's Abby, a brew from my old stomping grounds. I'm a big fan of my namesake beer style (Schwarzbier), so I've decided to try Framingham's Evil Brew.

500mL bottle served, for better or worse, in a plastic pint. Beer is as black as expected in color with a massive brown foam. Neutral, musty aroma. Flavor is "light" and crisp, with a giant nutty flavor down the middle, and enough carbonation on the tongue to keep it interesting. The beer is a little sweet for my tastes. Not so much underfermented as underhopped; I might have liked an extra load of Saaz or Hallertauer to amp up the IBUs on this roasty beast. But, it's still good schwarz lager. I'm looking forward to trying Framinghammer next, or perhaps RIPL. Oooh, or Baby Maker. Yeah, Jack's Abby, that was OK, but I'm gonna give you another shot.

.5 liter bottle poured into an Allagash 40cl chalice.

A- Dark brown, almost black, burnt caramel on the edges, tan head.

S- Roasted chesnuts, grilling spice.

T- Burnt brownie crust, bitter peanut shell, roasted oats, sweet licorice.

M- Medium to Low body, doesn't taste thin; just light. Very smooth without being sweet or viscous.

O- A must try. Would like more hop character, but that's just me being nit picky. Very great example of what Lagers do best.
