On tap at the Tap and Mallet in Rochester, NY.

Pours a very dark brown, almost black, with a quarter inch head, and a little bit of lacing.

Smells like chocolate, roasted malt, vanilla, and bourbon. There's no chipotle aromas on this.

There's a bit of chipotle heat here, it builds up nicely on the lips the more you drink. Other than that, there's the typical Framinghammer qualities- rich chocolate, some mild bourbon, a little bit of vanilla, and oak.

Medium bodied, creamy and smooth mouthfeel. Low carbonation. Despite the heat, very drinkable.

Another great variant. It's probably the least of the variants, but is still amazing.

Poured from a 10-day old growler that was hiding in my fridge.

Pours jet black with a lazy, tan head slowly forming, then mostly fading. Would have liked it to linger longer, but that's probably my fault for not opening it sooner (I was sick!). Maybe a touch oily and slick appearing on the surface, but maybe I'm just trying to find some fault here.

Everything else about this beer is a knockout punch. The pepper is undoubtedly present, but by no means overbearing as is often the case with pepper. Instead, it mingles with the rich, sweet malt, present more in flavor (whisps of smoke, too!) and aroma than in heat. There is definitely heat, but it's gentle, and even the heat is mingling with the bourbon notes. I had one glass with dinner and another well after. Played well with food, though it was not exactly refreshing; worked even better as dessert.

Easily the best beer I've had in a long time. I really hope they add this to the stable of variants that they bottle next year.
