5.15.2014 bottling date.

A: A dark brown pour with a small, very fizzy brown pour. So fizzy it looks and sounds exactly like soda. Naturally, it disappears in seconds with nary a trace. No lacing at all. Looks almost completely still. Funny.

S: Huh. Sweet cherries, almost cherry soda like. Lots of caramel helps sweeten it up for sure. There is a slight funkiness to it, can't quite place it.

T: Sweet cherries up front with oak and light toffee. Lightly funky initially. Cherries turn tart in the middle and into the finish. Great authentic cherry flavor (usually comes across as so artificial or cough syrup-like). Lightly tart cherries float through the entire beer and linger for a long time in the aftertaste. There is a light acidic kick in the finish at times too.

M: Fairly light but smooth. Lightly tart.

O: Huh, I'm not sure how to even classify this one. It reminds me kinda of a cherry flanders red mixed with a cherry berliner? Not overly tart, not overly sweet, not overly funky. Just a decent spread with surprising balance.

Pour is dark ruby red with a tan head. Nose is wood, lactic acid, light sulfur, a bit of plastic and some cherry. Taste is much cleaner, lactic acid and a much nicer wood note. Cherry is much stronger and none of the slight plastic note. Faintly tart, gently carbonated finish on a medium body and a touch syrupy.

Appearance similar to a red flanders with no carbonation. Smell had a nice waft of cherries, maybe a slight bourbon like touch. Taste was cherries up front, finished was dry and uneventful. Mouthfeel was thin and slightly watery.

Overall, a nice beer served cold, easy to drink. Was expecting more from the barrel aging and the thin mouthfeel was a disappointment. I would not say JA missed the mark on this, but was not blown away as I have been with many of their other offerings.

On tap at jacks abbey. Pours a borrowing red, head small, dissipates quickly. Smells of ripe cherries. Initial taste like drinking carbonated jerry juicy juice. Light sourness, more tart than sour. finishes slightly dry and tart. Overall, good, but won't lament my existence if I never have it again
