Style | ABV
American Pale Lager |  6.70% ABV

Availability: Year-round

Notes/Commercial Description:
This lager harmoniously combines lager yeast fermentation and west coast IPA hops. Our India style Pale Lager is like a traditional IPA but with a twist - it’s fermented cold and aged for extended periods. A blend of classic American hops creates a huge tropical fruit and citrusy hop aroma. A dry finish accentuates the pleasant bitterness and hop profile. Hoponius Union uses locally grown dehulled spelt from MA.

Poured from a 16 oz bottle into a snifter. Lucky enough to scoop up the last 4 pack at Yankee Spirits in Attleboro, MA.

A- Pours a slightly hazy, golden body with a thick fluffy white head that reduces slowly to some bubbles sitting on the top of the beer. Leaves uniform lacing.

S- Citrus, grapefruit, tangerines, honey, caramel malt, slight breadyness. Subtle but delicious aromas.

T- Starts off juicy, citrusy and tropical, progressing into a sweeter lager with caramel and honey notes, ends every so slightly bitter and piney. Unlike an IPA of the same flavor profile, these notes are more subdued, not as sticky, and leave less of hoppy aftertaste.

M- Super light, smooth, and refreshing. Definitely has the drinkability of a lager.

An excellent representation of an uncommon style. All hopheads should seek this one out. Comparable to an IPA but less aromatic and a little more modestly flavored, yet extremely delicious.

Big thanks to billab914 for this one.

A. Mostly clear honey gold with two fingers of some of the prettiest head I've ever seen in a beer. Settling down to a half finger over time, the head, lacing, and beading remain consistent and impossibly tight. Suds absolutely blanket the sides of the glass.

S. More excellence. Big tropical mango and tangerine notes, some honey sweetness, and then a healthy dose of garden herbs and tall grass.

T. Mango, pineapple, underripe strawberry, earth, pine, thyme, crackers, rose petals.

M. Really nice. It starts big and tropical but then finishes with that classic, earthy, dry, and floral lager finish.

O. This is a really good Pale Lager. Very hoppy but incredibly well-balanced and has a very classic pilsner finish, with spice and grain providing a very crisp, refreshing experience. I love this beer and would make it a staple in my fridge were it available in my part of the country.

Pours hazy golden, one finger fluffy white head, with nice strips of carbonation. Looks like a lager indeed, but not entirely.
Great smell! Nice balance of citrusy green hops (tropical notes too) and caramel biscuity malts, like in a Munich helles. Hops are aromatic, not overwhelming. Should be great.
Okay, so, the malts are light, with some caramel and biscuit notes, and not as robust as an ale would be. Still, rich, but rather "fluffy", like boiled grains. Sweet hoppy fruitiness, with sweet oranges and tangerines, mild grapefruit, tropical lychee and pineapple, big floral notes and also prickly spicy hops. Great green leafy finish, with pine, mild bitterness.
Light body, but not watery, actually very very smooth, again, "fluffy". Dry finish with a green fresh hoppy aftertaste. Also, 6.7? Where?!
Overall, feels like a more crisp American IPA, with a German malt base and perfectly balanced hops. Extremely drinkable (watch out for the abv) and tasty.

Surprisingly my first taste of Hoponius and I certainly wasn't disappointed. This is a beautiful looking beer in it's color. Not the hoppiest smell I was hoping for so it may not have been the freshest bottle. The Mouthfeel was a little too much of a bite but that's just being nit-picky. Overall really loved this brew!
