American Pale Lager |  6.70% ABV

Availability: Year-round

Notes/Commercial Description:
This lager harmoniously combines lager yeast fermentation and west coast IPA hops. Our India style Pale Lager is like a traditional IPA but with a twist - it’s fermented cold and aged for extended periods. A blend of classic American hops creates a huge tropical fruit and citrusy hop aroma. A dry finish accentuates the pleasant bitterness and hop profile. Hoponius Union uses locally grown dehulled spelt from MA.

Bottle courtesy of cbeer88, thanks again!

Pours a bright and slightly hazy gold color with a huge white head.

Aromas are very nice. Notes of hard candies, sugary citrus, floral hop cones and crackers.

Taste is light and hoppy. Crackers, bread dough, and light creamy sweetness up front. Finish is snappy and crisp with bitter grapefruit, and mineral bitterness.

Mouthfeel is smooth with plenty of body and nice carbonation.

Overall, a very tasty lager. Very refreshing and super drinkable, would be a treat on a warm day.

So I guess this brew is an APL or an IPL... either way it seems to be an "Ale" inspired lager. Thanks to cbeer88 for sending this one my way. Appearance is slightly hazy and orange. Fluffy white head forms and retains nicely, heavy lacing left behind. The aroma features lemon, earthy, pine, and grass. Very hoppy with notes of cracker underneath. The taste starts with a touch of malty graininess followed by a touch of sweetness. Then comes a wave of hoppy bitterness in the form of grass and pine. It finishes off with more cracker and bread notes. Very nice range of flavors here with good balance. Mouthfeel is moderate with appropriate carbonation. Overall, this is a lager I could get in to. Definitely one to try for the hop heads out there.

A: An almost perfectly clear light reddish-amber pour. Huge slightly off-white head. Fades very slowly, leaving huge swaths of lacing behind.

S: Huge hop aroma. Citrus, grapefruit and tropical fruit. Even some pine! Absolutely wonderful.

T: Grapefruit, oranges, mango, pineapple followed by a huge wave of pine. Big hop bomb. Only a hint of a bready malt following all of the hop flavors but it's enough to balance out the bitterness decently.

M: Medium bodied, crisp.

O: Great brew. It's like one of the best IPAs I can think of, but it has the smoothness and drinkability of a lager. It's the best of both worlds. Really tasty and goes down easy. What else could you ask for?

Draught @ Noho Brewfest: This one pours a clear golden color. There was a small white head on it. The nose is good: piney and citrus hops. The taste is good also. IT has a pretty good hop bite. Pine and resinous hops dominate the flavor. Medium bodied. This tastes really good and is easy to drink.

Pours a hazy, bubbly golden-orange with a large lasting frothy off-white head. Some lacing on the glass. Really nice aroma is fruity and hoppy, with lots of citrus hops and tropical fruit along with beady malt and some herbal and floral notes. Flavor is just as nice, lots of citrusy hops and plenty fruity, with citrus and tropical fruit and a long moderate bitter finish.

huge thanks to lalaloveyou for this extra from a recent trade! Thanks Lauren!

reviewed from notes on 6/15/12.

poured into tulip glass.

Appearance: brilliant and clear yellow bodied beer with 2 fingers of white head.

Smell: Big hops profile. Grassy, herbal, and citrus, tropical fruit, floral and little bit of pine notes round out the nose.

Taste: Mild sweetness from malts and a little more prevanent hop profile, but nicely balanced. Malts are light by taste of biscuit, carmel, and saltine crackers. The hops are really grassy and citrusy. Pine and grapefruit linger in the back. Its got just a hint of yeast noted in the beer as well.

Mouthfeel: light bodied beer with a moderate carbonation. Super refreshing, super drinkable, and really crisp, yet remaining creamy. The hops leave a little bit of oily feel as well.

Overall: I will be seeking out this style during the warm weather months! I am really impressed by this East Coast Brewery. Great beer!
