Ancient timelines talk of dark days, plagued by hardships and Kingdom demands. When hope was all but lost, a legend emerged. A plumber. With copper pipes and an uncanny wit, he battled fierce foes and saw to the brewery’s opening. Our Octoberfest is malty, smooth and exceedingly drinkable. It is perfect to celebrate and honor today’s legends. We use locally grown wheat from MA, Munich malt and noble hops.

500ml bottle served in a nonic. Fall 2012 indicated on the back label. Pours a bright, orangish-copper with a slightly hazy clarity and a dense, one inch, off-white head. Head eventually settles into a fairly consistent skim; some spots of lacing are revealed during the tasting. Nose is somewhat subdued - light malts and perhaps a trace of diacetyl. Taste follows nose - definitely has festbier qualities in the flavor profile, but nothing really dominates. Some toasted notes, a hint of caramel sweetness a little skunk and a fairly clean finish. Mouthfeel is medium-light with a pleasant and consistent carbonation Overall, quite drinkable. The style in general tends to become a little too cloying for me; however, this beer has a very pleasant character to it.

Pours into a pokal a..well a copper color with a minimal head,I like a big white crown on my O-fest lager and this didn't have much of one at all.Some caramel and bread dough in the nose with a lighted note.a somewhat mellow flat feel to the beer wich again is off for the style.Flavors of caramel,bread dough,and a light smattering of herbal hops in the finish,not bad but the feel doesn't help the flavors.Maybe an off bottle as far as carbonation goes,would like to try fresh from the tap.

Smells truly wonderful! Toasty. Buttery. Caramel. Taste is quite different from most Oktoberfest styles I've tried as it's rich with warm, roasty, caramel flavor yet very light and bubbly on the palate. Extremely welcoming and drinkable.

Had on tap recently @ Magouns in Somerville.

Pours a nice copper as the name suggests. Little head which goes away quickly.

Sweet, malty, slightly dirty nose. A bit of the same in the sip, a bit cloying, overly sweet. A bit of an unpleasant after -taste too which made my face pucker.

Above characteristics became highlighted & exacerbated as I drank the glass, it was a bit of a struggle to finish. Caramel notes were running rampant.

My least favorite offering from this new brewery so far, unfortunately. As a long time fan of Marzens & ofests, I cant help but feel this beer was rushed. Will try another time.

16.9oz brown bottle with a mention of it being a 2012 fall release on the label ... better than no freshness date.

LOOK: Sunset orangey copper hue, very clear with ample frothing

SMELL: Fresh hay, toasted bread, grape skin, clean, floral, spicy hop

TASTE: Full malt jacket, grassy, grapenuts, herbal hop, bread crust, semi-clean, slight sweetness, hint of alcohol, long grainy finish

Very well put together, if this was a bit cleaner it would give its German counterparts a run for their O-fest. I'll be visiting this lager more often than other O-fests this year.

Poured into a Sam Adams Perfect Pint glass

Appearance: 1/3 head, medium carbonation, golden brown in color, clear

Smell: toasted malt and grain

Taste: toasted malt, mineral, and earth

Mouthfeel: sweet with a good deal of earthiness, high carbonation, light bodied

Overall:A solid mineraly tasting lager. Good for the style, and if I want a marzen I would look for it. However, I will probably not rush to pick this one up again.

Copper Legend opens with a largely grain-based aroma, full of toast, biscuit, Grape Nuts cereal, wet wheat, and hay. Slight touches of fruit esters – apricot, berry, orange – and pinches of brown sugar linger at the edges, difficult to notice. Even fainter are piney, citrusy notes from the hops. Obviously grains are dominant here, but even those aromas are relatively light, and one needs to place one’s nose fairly close to the beer to catch a whiff. As a whole, the aromas are nice, and feature just enough sugars to balance the grains, but the beer could use a bit more oomph to produce a stronger aroma.

On the tongue, the beer does continue to primarily feature grains, with wheat, toast crust, Grape Nuts cereal, yeasty dough, floury baguette, and even a bit of dark brown bread coming to the front. The sugars here are thankfully far more present than they were on the nose, adding good measures of orange, apricot, and berry fruits, as well as brown sugar and a touch of wildflower honey. The hops add a further citrusy note, as well as a pinch of pine, and gain a little strength in the latter part of the mouthful. In subsequent sips much of the finer nuance of the sugars is lost, and the beer comes across more like bread and hay. The aftertaste is mainly bread and hay, with a distinct bitterness from the piney hops, and lingers for a short time. Mouthfeel is medium-light to medium, and carbonation is medium to medium-high, fizzing up in the mouth.

Overall, this is a good beer, and certainly far better than standard Anheuser-Busch fare. But it does lack a certain amount of punch, and the sugars are low enough that they become easily lost under the grains – especially in subsequent sips. A better sampling of orange, berry, and apricot notes would have served this brew better, and helped to balance the affair.

Copper in color with a nice head of near-white foam. Appropriately pretty Oktoberfest.

Earthy, bready, and mildly hoppy beer. A touch of floral and sweet notes as well.

Biscuit and a bit of sweetness combine with low to moderate bitterness, and just a touch of floral, grassy hops. Quite nice. Very drinkable.

Medium to near full in body, at least for the style. Moderate carbonation.

Very drinkable, tasty to-style beer.

Poured into a Harpoon Octoberfest mug.

Pouring it into the mug, it appears as an earthy orange with a humongous frothy head, light cream in color. Huge maltiness on the nose – pie crust and barley soup. Taste is reminiscent of burnt crackers, bread crust and porridge. This is a terrific showcase of the malts used. It’s rich, earthy and tastes of iron. The mouthfeel is wonderfully crisp. Jack’s Abby knows lagers. The depth is not huge, but the flavors that are there are wonderfully tied together and makes for a great Oktoberfest beer.

Poured from a .5 liter bottle into a stein- pours a somewhat hazy burnt orange color, with two fingers of bubbly light beige head. Modest retention, some nice spots and streaks of lacing.

I get a crisp barley smell from this one- some caramel, a little bit of hops. Perhaps a touch of wheat. Nice, but very subtle.

Taste is very nice- interestingly enough, there's a decent hop presence in this marzen, really distinguishing it from the german variety. The hops are there throughout, and are slightly bitter and a little earthy. Caramel malt and some wheat smooth out the flavor. Their house yeast is certainly present in this one.

Mouthfeel is very good but again different than traditional oktoberfests- medium light mouthfeel, moderate to full carbonation, moderately dry finish. It's an interesting take on the marzen/oktoberfest style. It's jack's abby, so of course I love it. If you're looking for a traditional smooth, super malty oktoberfest, look elsewhere.

Update: It's definitely better a little closer to room temperature.

500 mo bottle poured into my hobgoblin glass designed for beers that size.

A - great copper color like the name suggests. Not a lot of head but ivenoticed that withthis glass.

S - nice biscuity malt smell with a good hop backdrop. Smells like a nice day in thecountryside but near a country bakery. Grassy.

T - Malty but not not a malt bomb. Hops on the backside.

M - good carbonation. Slightly heavy. Good hearty drink.

O - awesome local marzen. Super stoked to have access to this for years tocome. Cheers!

A: Pours bronze with great clarity. Anais has the start be quickly dissipates. Not much lacing but a thin film of bubbles persists.

S: biscuity and malty. Toasted grain and mild sweetness.

T: Wow! This is what an Oktoberfest Marzen should taste like! Biscuity, a little chewy, but fresh and clean, with animal cracker and cracker flavors throughout. Mild hops in the back add some dimension to all of the grainy and bready flavors.

O: I love this brew! An instant classic. Maybe the best Oktoberfest offering I've yet had! One to try if you're a fan of the style or if you're a skeptic of the style.

Pours orange with a small white foamy head. No lacing.

Smells of caramel with some earthy dirty aroma. A bit off.

Sweet caramel malts with a bit of apple and unfortunately a metallic dirty finish. Upfront flavors are ok, but the finish leaves a bit to be desired.

Thin bodied with good carbonation. I'd like more mouthfeel here.

Despite the words above I did enjoy drinking this beer. There were just little things in almost every aspect that made it average instead of good.

On tap at the Old Toad in Rochester, NY.

Pours an unsurprising copper color, with a half inch head and minimal lacing.

Smells very earthy, with some sweet malty tones as well.

The taste upfront is bitter floral hops, with some grass as well. The back end is very malty and satisfying, with caramel, toast, and a good amount of sweetness.

Crisp mouthfeel, could be a little drier.

Not surprised that Jack's Abby nailed this style. One of the best American made versions.

Pours a golden color with orange hues, small but decent head, fades at a moderate pace, no lacing on my glass.

Smell is mostly sweet malt with a subtle hop character, nothing that grabs my nostrils attention.

Taste is surprisingly smooth and slick, the body is excellent with a nice creamy feel it to, carbonation is near perfect, taste is mostly malt but does has a decent hop balance in the aftertaste which helps to smooth it out, neither flavor is overwhelming but just the right amount, very easy drinking with a semi-dry finish that keeps you refreshed and coming back for more.

Brilliant copper hue with a fluffy white head that sticks to the glass for a long time

lots of bready malt aroma

tons of bready malt flavor without getting too sweet thanks to a light grassy hop flavor. finishes dry, leaving you craving more

i disagree with my peers on this one. jack's abby nailed a classic german lager style AGAIN. incredibly easy to drink, not too filling and tons of malty flavor. isnt that what oktoberfest beers are all about?

Bought a single bottle from Beers of the World Coulmbus Day weekend 2014. Poured into dimpled mug at fridge temp.

look: burnished gold with copper tint. head disappears quickly.

smell: classic noble hop perfume

taste: well balanced malt and hops, toasted graininess at the end.

mouthfeel: crisp

overall: smells good, tastes very good, lack of head retention the only flaw.

Poured from the bottle into a goblet.

Appearance: The beer pours a clear amber color with a thick layer of off white head. The head fades quickly to a ring around the pour.

Smell: The overall smell is very mild. I'm getting a slightly sweet caramel malt note, but that's about it. Not particularly interesting.

Taste: Almost as mild as the smell. There is a fairly nice malt note, just a touch sweet and rather bready. The finish has a slight bitterness to it.

Mouthfeel: The body is medium with tingly carbonation and a finish that is slightly dry.

Overall: This is a quite unremarkable beer. Nothing particularly interesting going on here. I don't need anymore.

A-off white head, thick, nice gem like copper color.

S-standard marzen yeast smell, nice hard candy smell

T-fruit stone, hard candy

M-medium

D-Okay style wise. A bit run of the mill. Not bad, but just not anything to scream about.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a pint glass. Orangey gold in color.

Has kind of a sourdough bread smell.

It's fairly malty and a little tart and sour at first. The sourness kind of lingers in the aftertaste, but not in an offensive way.

The mouthfeel is light and smooth.

I'm a little underwhelmed considering I really like the other beers I've had from this brewery. It's not bad, but nothing about really makes me want to have another one.

This was an OK beer in my book. Easy drinker, nothing super special. Poured a deep gold/coppery color, nice head that lingered. Somewhat thick mouthfeel, maybe a touch of honey sweetness. A little hoppy and a little malty. Nothing extraordinary, but a very solid lager.

Brassy orange with a friendly tuft of foam on top. Unfiltered so a tad hazy. My bottle says 5.9% abv.

Smells like crystal with some musty hop and...semolina?

Good balance. Sweet malts, just a little apple juice-y, balanced by drier bread crust and toast balanced by some subtle, but noticable, musty hop. Doesn't have an outstanding smooth lager mouthfeel.

While I certainly appreciate the balance of this beer over it's often overly sweet or semi-metallic brethren, the body leaves something to be desired.

Missed reviewing this last year but always up for Jacks Abby reviews, probably my favorite brewery overall from MA. On-tap at Dive Bar in Worcester.

A- Golden light amber pour into a pint glass. One finger foamy white head with decent retention. Small ring remains atop the beer but only a few spots of lace are deposited around the glass.

S- Smooth toasted malty aroma. Caramel, toasted nuts and some fruity raisin-like hints. Brown sugars also come to mind with a good lager yeasty base.

T- Smoothed out slight buttery malty caramel base. Toasted nuts, raisin, fresh cracked grains and light caramel sweets in a maltier overall flavor profile. Hops in the finish are grassy and spicy, Noble varieties.

MF- Creamy, silky texture in a body that has a light-moderately thick feel. Moderately high carbonation with a super creamy, smooth feel. Light bitterness in the finish.

Good malt character with a nice complimentary Noble hop finish as well as lager yeast. Good buttery, toasted caramel malt feel.

Poured from a 16.9oz bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a deep amber color, with a large off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains lager yeast, caramelized malts, fruit and some hops.

T: The taste starts out sweet with flavors of caramel and fruit. Then a strong breadiness comes in from lager yeast and a hearty malt character. The hops presence is mild but complementary and brings a good balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet and slightly bready.

M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, decent kick, good representation of style, this is a solid beer to pound down for a while.

16.9oz bottle purchased as a single from somewhere localish.

Poured into my 2008 Pioneer stein, formed a 1" light beige head over the slightly cloudy orangey amber brew. Head bubbles away, with lasting sticky lacing. Aroma is sweet, lightly fruity.

Taste starts worty and moderately sweet, fruity in the middle, and light bitterness through the close. Body seems lacking. Mouthfeel is very smooth, and drinkability is way easy. Not bad, but doesn't quite come together for me as well as some of my Okt faves.
