Served in my mug at Estelle's in Boston.

Appearance: A one finger head was poured that reduced to a thin layer. It is a hazy pale yellow orange color with no vision of anything. Frothy lacing down the glass as the beer was drank.

Smell: Herbal, lemony, spicy, grassy, pilsner, lager yeast, toasted, and pale malts.

Taste: Hop flavor resonates through my palate. Followed by a nice malt backbone and light tingly bitterness. So e chewy notes and slight booze in the rear. Very tasty.

Mouthfeel: Smooth, refreshing, a bit chewy, medium bodied, and medium carbonation.

Overall: This beer never fails. Bottle or draft and you can't go wrong. Looking forward to more of this in the future. This beer is so delicious. So good, I ordered another.

In a lot ways, this wonderfully big, hoppy lager leans—in terms of taste and texture—into the XPA territory: juicy, sharp, immensely grassy, with a clean, light, blonde-malt body and a dry, pointed finish. But in the juiciness, and the galloping effervescent, one sees the lager likenesses become more apparent: a substantial yeast-fruitiness, and a round, creamy sub-current—elements which are more subtle and softly announce themselves—position Kiwi Rising solidly in the province of Pilsner. And yet those New Zealand hops really set this beer apart within the "Imperial Pilsner" subset, imparting intense and floral aromas of grapefruit, papaya, and wild grasses, delivering the same—along with hemp resins, pine and spruce juices, some juniper, key lime, and even a hint of mango—to the very complex flavor-profile.

This is a really excellent effort out of Framingham: a great alchemical operation that brings the best of two burgeoning genres (New Zealand-hopped XPAs and Imperial Pilsners) and holds those qualities in elegantly coordinated concert.

I admit, I will be an outlier. But this beer is not JA's best.

Poured from a 16.9oz bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a very light yellow gold color, with a large white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick but spotty lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains floral hops, fruity kiwi & citrus, lager yeast and light caramelized malts.

T: The taste starts out with a burst of grassy hops bitterness that is quickly followed by sweet flavors of kiwi, citrus and caramel. Then some breadiness comes in from lager yeast and a hearty but not too heavy malt character. The after-taste is slightly hoppy and slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, good kick, good representation of style, this is a solid beer to drink for a long time.
