Style | ABV
American Pale Lager |  4.50% ABV

Availability: Year-round

Notes/Commercial Description:
Deep golden in color, this low ABV lager balances Pilsner and Munich malt with an aromatic American hop aroma. This beer starts hoppy but finishes unexpectedly malty with very low bitterness. Impressively flavorful and drinkable for the lightest beer we brew. We dub this beer a "Session Lager," as we once again brew a lager in a beer style of its own. Uses local Soft Red Winter Wheat from Four Star Farms.

12oz bottle poured into a snifter. MFG 11-08-2013 on the side of the label.

A: Pours a slightly hazy very light golden yellow with white head. Large bubbles break up the foam in a minute or so. Average amount of visible carbonation. Leaves some decent lacing behind.

S: Hop forward aroma on this one, can really get some citrus notes. Nice freshness to it. Spicy lager tones are also substantial. A touch of fermented dark fruit.

T: Very balanced flavor on this one, can see why it is a session lager. The hops are present but really just add flavor and not any bitterness. Malts dominate the back-end but are smooth with a biscuity bready flavor.

M: Medium body with ample carbonation. Real smooth body with great sessionability.

Overall this would be a great deck beer in the summer. Loads of flavor with a low enough ABV to enjoy the whole sixer on a warm day.

Bottled 11/08/2013, this is one of 6 beers I picked up at Julio's last week.

Pouring a clear light orange with a beautiful, dense off white head with excellent retention and nice lacing, this is an impressive looking beer. The nose is good. An initial whiff of sulfur is present, but really, the nose is dominated by a bready Munich malt and a doughy, rustic pils malt character. Alongside is a moderate hop character, a blend of orange peel, a little bit of floral character and maybe some grapefruit? Some mineral character, reminiscent of cascade hops, is present.

The palate is what you'd expect from the description. A really nice blend of bready and doughy malt with a touch of honey, this is pretty refreshing. The mid palate brings the hops to the forefront, with a moderate bitterness and mild citrus character. Bready on the finish with a clean, lingering bitterness, this beer is medium light in body and is crisply carbonated. The carbonation does have a mild acidity that doesn't wholly work with the sweeter malt flavors IMO. A delightful little beer.

12oz bottle poured into a standard pint. Thanks go to Kegatron for gifting me with a variety of Jack's Abby offerings. The brew appears a pale golden copper color with a white cap that fades leaving stringy patches of lace. Rising bubbles maintain a half finger around the perimeter of the glass.

The aroma contains a pleasant mix of fruity to floral hop attributes that blends with a bit of bready to biscuit-like fresh grain inclusion. Some herbal spice, faint sulfur and a trace amount of buttery diacetyl.

The taste is herbal, floral, fruity and zesty with hop flavoring and bitterness that blends into a soft buttery diacetyl note before fading to a bready and biscuit-like fresh grain inclusion. Hints of yeasty qualities run across the palate towards the finish.

This is a light bodied brew with modest carbonation. A very clean, crisp and enjoyable offering that I could effortlessly throw a few pints back without getting bogged down. This is worth seeking out.
