Style | ABV
American Pale Lager |  4.50% ABV

Availability: Year-round

Notes/Commercial Description:
Deep golden in color, this low ABV lager balances Pilsner and Munich malt with an aromatic American hop aroma. This beer starts hoppy but finishes unexpectedly malty with very low bitterness. Impressively flavorful and drinkable for the lightest beer we brew. We dub this beer a "Session Lager," as we once again brew a lager in a beer style of its own. Uses local Soft Red Winter Wheat from Four Star Farms.

A: Poured from the bottle into a pilsner glass. Body is clear light golden with a half-finger white head. Good thick rings of lace left behind.

S: Florally and citrusy hops over modest grainy and fruity malt. Not a strong nose, but it's pleasant.

T: Bready up front, with some sweet fruitiness following. Then comes citrus (oranges, lemons), with the hops surprisingly strong given the 20 IBUs listed on the label. Very nice balance. Finishes slightly sweet and bready, but with some lemony bitterness lingering in the aftertaste.

M: Light in heft, with good carbonation levels; finishes slightly sticky in feel, reminding me more of a Helles Lager in some ways.

O: So this is what a very good American Pale Lager can taste like. A great post-lawnmowing beer or one to have when you're having more than one. If this were a little cheaper, I'd buy it by the case in the summer. If it finished just a bit more crisp then I would be completely enamored with this beer. As it is, I'm still quite happy with it.

Single purchased at Cable Beverage.

Bold gold body, some haze, topped by two level fingers of just off white micro bubbles. Very little lacing.

Big fresh grass/hay aroma. Hints of lemon.

Sweet beginning, light malt splashing down the tongue. Small clean bitter snap at the swallow. Gentle hoppiness. Clean finish.

Light mouthfeel.

Sort of mix of helles, but not as soft, and a pils, but not as crispy hoppy. Lives up to its session lager goal, but I'd prefer something more true to either style I mentioned.

A - Clear, deep gold. Small white head. Moderate lacing.

S - Subtle oats, malted barley, biscuit.

T - Smooth matly biscuit, cut of with the crisp spicy hops.

M - Thin, refreshing good carbonation.

O - Excellent lager. Like the idea this is a session at 4.5% One of the better craft lagers I've enjoyed.

Appearance: Slightly hazed darkish gold. Head is bright white and drops to a wispy cap with a slightly larger collar. Moderate carbonation.

Smell: Biscuit and bread. Slightly toasted with a slight caramelized malt sweetness. Hips are minimal adding some pine and a light floral element. Very mild. Malt backbone is light and clean. Some small hints of caramel. It's all very light. Some grass and hay.

Taste: Light bread crust with some toasted elements. Some hints of floral and pine from the hops, Malts are lightly sweet with some.caramelized sugars in the back. A touch of grass and hay with an incredibly clean lager yeast. Some apple skin.

Mouthfeel: Light to medium body with a moderate carbonation. Slightly dry finish with a crisp snap. Clean.

Overall: King of Brau.

If you don't like lagers, drink this and you will.
