A - Very, very dark amber porter. Thick pour, with very little foam.

S - First thoughts were of nuttiness, creamy and woody smell in the background.

T - Rich and smooth with a thick sweetness that almost reminds me of ice cream. Very delicious.

M - Smooth all the way through.

O - Tasty porter right here, right up with my favorites.

Poured from a 500ml bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a deep black color, with a thin beige head that fades quickly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains roasted malts, bourbon, coffee, chocolate and a touch of hops.

T: The taste starts out with a hearty roasted malt character that is quickly followed by sweet flavors of bourbon, coffee and chocolate. There’s some smokiness in the background but a lot less than the regular version. The hops presence is also weaker than the regular version but is still complementary enough to provide a good balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is dry and slightly sticky.

O: Very tasty, goes down dangerously easily, not too filling, strong kick, very good representation of style, typically I don’t get as excited by barrel-aging as most but this one beer where I noticed a huge improvement over the regular version.

Thanks again to mjg0725 (been doing that a lot lately) for this bottle among many others. Slender 500ML bottle poured into a big ol' snifter.

The beer is tame with little carbonation, only a hard pour the last few ounces brings any rise off the surface, quickly subsiding. Very dark brown with zero light penetration (hehehe...I typed 'penetration'). Nose is similarly quiet with a dose of vanilla, light roast. Avid sniffing doesn't reveal much more.

Framinghammer - Bourbon Barrel Aged is a pondering beer. I feel like striking the Thinker pose after each sip: is this sublime or merely pretty good? Let us dissect the beer & chronicle its strengths & weaknesses, shall we? First, the barrel isn't the protagonist, but part of the supporting cast, lending more vanilla & back-o-the-throat heat than actual bourbon flavor, which is present but mild. Plucky roast & a pellet of chest-warming alcohol in the middle, along with lesser notes of chocolate. Finish is slightly numbing bourbon, strong tannins, sweet brown sugar. Really opens up as it warms, & it takes a good twenty plus minutes. Just like the Coffee, this is dangerously drinkable; I'd like a crazy straw, please. Large bore.

Verdict: gotta go with this being an excellent beer. Not sure if its the artistry or the lager yeast or what, but these Jack's Abby beers are lapping drinkable. Not a bad defining characteristic to have if you're a brewery. Looking forward to the other two Jacks' beers in the fridge!

My favorite beer to date! This is just how I like my stouts and porters. This beer was mostly chocolaty up front with hints of dark fruit. You could taste the oak barrels throughout. The aftertaste was an incredibly pleasant coconut flavor that left me wanting more. It was mildly carbonated and had a very creamy mouth feel, but not to the point of being too thick. This is a must try!
