From half liter bottle into a teku.

Pours pitch black and produces a heavy, thick and foamy head. It's about four fingers thick and persistent. The head eventually dissipates into a half finger thick layer above the body and lace runs up the sides of the glass. Some carbonation is visible in the body, but it's extremely opaque and thus hard to see much.

Heavy aromas of oak, whisky and peat hit my nose. I smell more scotch than bourbon, but it still smells delicious. I eventually get some rye spice and notes of vanilla and chocolate, but the more aggressive aspects of the barrel-aging are most on display here. A few more moments of warming and the beers maltiness becomes more apparent. and with it caramel and sweetness.

All of the more potent bourbon traits extend to the tongue, with heavy oak, smokiness, vanilla and spicy rye all dominant. There's still a good element of sweet malt and dark chocolate to this beer, so the bourbon doesn't run away with the beer.

I have to say, this beer is boozy. It's not unpleasant or off-putting, but it is a force to reckon with. It still drinks smoothly, but you will feel a bit of heat crashing the creamy malt party.

In the end, this beer is damn good with a ton of flavors coming alive. It's a pleasure to drink.
