Notes/Commercial Description:
This beer is retired; no longer brewed.

Aged in white wine barrels for three months with the wild yeast brettanomyces. Light notes of oak counter an intense funkiness from the wild fermentation. The base lager for this beer was brewed in the French farmhouse style. We added our own twist by adding 30% Rye Malt, locally grown Triticale from MA and amber Belgian candy sugar. We left this beer slightly hazy to accentuate the mild fruity yeasty character.

.5 liter bottle "July 2012"

Pour is hazed amber under a thick lite tan head. Leaves well developed rings and webs of lace.

Nose is softly fruity and earthy. Nice

Flavorful and quite enjoyable brew. Notes of honey flowers rye. Any sour is quite muted with barnyard just mildly expressing it self.

Soft on the palate with carbonation on the lower side

I'd like to see how this one fares with some more time in the bottle

Poured from a .5 liter bottle into a pilsener (I pour all their beers into a pilsener)- pours a hazy golden amber color, slow forming 1.5 finger head, decent retention, nice streaks and spots of lacing.

Rye punches out of the nose- also a little funk, some candi sugar. Nice nose.

Taste is exceptional- more of the funk, still a strong rye presence, some dry hops towards the end. A really earthy taste but well balanced by the candi sugar.

Mouthfeel is great as usual- medium light body, moderate carbonation, dry finish. This is an AWESOME beer, really interesting and well worth checking out.

Frothy pour. Pale amber color with a tightly packed white head.

Smell is just straight sulfur. Like someone with lactose intolerance engaged themselves thoroughly at an ice cream festival, relieved their intestinal misfortune into the bottle and capped it. I really don't know what else to say here.

The smell carries into the taste. Over barreled. Unpleasant finish. Dull malt.

Both bottles I've had were exactly the same. Am I drinking the same beer as everyone else? It has the same label as the picture. This is a joke right?

A- Clear golden body into a pint glass. Big white head forms with good retention. Amazing lace forms nice and thick patterns down the glass.

S- Actually like a lambic. The sour funky Brett feel is pungent and quite nice. Some caramel and rye in the background.

T- The Brett comes through nicely with horse funk, cherry pits, barnyard and hay. The base balances it out with rye grains, caramel and some earthy, floral hops.

MF- Silky dried out body with lower end carbonation. Bitterness finishes it all of nicely.

Smooth and pungent Brett. This could be a go to funky beer. Combined great drinkability and funk.

Pours a huge frothy almost 3 finger head forced by the tapered bottle, that fades at a med pace at first but slows to a crawl, with lots of sticky lacing, over hazy murky reddish hue honey orange color.

Nose start with some Bretty funk, a light horseblanket like funk, a light spicy rye, hints of sour fruit and lemongrass, a hint of a bready like aroma, but mostly just Brett.

Taste starts with more Brett, again the horseblanket funk, not crazy funky, but definitely big Brett funk, almost like a light White Birch like beer from the funky flavors. A light spicy rye comes through in the background, with a light tart lemon flavor and bits of floral spices in the background, hint of grassy flavors from probably hint of hops and the Brett, a hint of fruity crisp lager kind of. A hint of a sticky caramel sweetness in there, helping to prop up the Brett flavors. Finish is dry with a light caramel malt, hint of rye, and lots of Brett flavors lingering but much less funky on the finish.

Mouth is med to lighter bodied, decent carb.

Overall pretty good. I like the crazy horse blanket funk from the Brett, and this has some of it without going crazy. Nice malts underneath with hint of caramel, a bit of spicy rye, and bits of what used to be lager flavors. A decent funky Brett showing that I think will come out much stronger as it ages, so I'll be doing plenty of that with a few more bottles.

Served in a Bruery snifter.

Big thanks to cbeer88 for this bottle!

Reviewed blind as part of Blind BIF 7. This stuff pours a hazy orange topped by two fingers of cream-white foam. The nose comprises mild orange zest, sweet flowers, a vague notion of wheat, and a touch of perfume-y white wine grapes. The taste holds notes of blood orange/tangelo zest, mango, light lemon peel, light coriander, light wheat, and a good portion of Brett funk (though I couldn't rightly identify this at first...I blame prior drinking and tiredness...). The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a sorta/kinda dry finish. Overall, an interesting beer, to say the least. I believe I summed it up best for me by saying that though I would not purposefully buy this one myself if given the opportunity, but I wouldn't turn one down if given to me in some manner. Suffice it to say: I generally enjoyed it, but I didn't revel in it by any means.

Bottle courtesy of Patrick, thanks again!

Pours a hazy and bright orange color with a huge white head.

Aromas are of white wine, light vinegar, cut grass, and lemon zest.

Taste is lighter than the nose suggests, but still quite pleasant. Light sweetness, clean, with some cream, nuttiness, and a light sour and tart finish.

Mouthfeel is crisp, dry, with nice body,

Overall an enjoyable and unique beer. Well worth trying.

1528th Review on BA
Bottle to Pinot Wine glass
500ml

July 2012 bottling
Thanks to BAs Rudzud & Jlindros

App- a nice medium colored orange with touches of golden and tan. A bit of a medium density with a good 1" head. Almost white and fell amazingly well. So pretty in the glass.

Smell- Well mainly I get the lager. Additionally the oak and tannins are there with some splendid rye under currants. A small amount of oak comes in and the brett brings that funk/must nose.

Taste- Why in gods name cant all lagers be turned into this. The brett brings a great funk and the lager is there but mellowed greatly. A little bit of spice from the rye and a lot of dryness from the white wine treatment.

Mouth- A more medium creamy body with a medium carbonation. Residual oak, brett and dry grassy funk. Lots of rye follows.

Drink- Are you sure this is a lager?? Wtf!! Why cant all lagers be like this. Rye, Brett and tasty as shit!!
