Notes/Commercial Description:
True Story! Running a brewery can be "bock" breaking. It's all worthwhile when you have the opportunity to share beer like this. Our Maibock/Helles Bock is deep golden in color with an intense malty almost grape like aroma and flavor. A light noble hop character balances the smooth sweet finish. A long lagering time makes this beer exceptionally drinkable for its strength. Don't be fooled by its light color.

The kind of beer that's such a sun shiney perfect exemplification of a underrated style that I had to actual sit down and write a review for it, instead of just going "derpa-DOW" and punching the "Hads" button, as has become my recent want. (And yes, jerks, I make a sound effect every time I tick off a Had. You would, too, if you were a real Beer Man.)

Anyhow, this is every goddamn thing I look for in a Helles. It tastes like light. There are dandelion bits floating in it. Dry, sweet barleycorn mixed with weedy yellow hops and all kinds of weird verdant nodes so--to exhaust a descriptor I've been using dumbly for almost a decade--it tastes like a walk through a field at sunset. It's not quite as out-there pollen-y as New Glarus' dead, gorgeous Zwickle, but it's easily one of the very best American-made examples of its style that I've ever had.

16.9oz bottle purchased as a single from Yankee Spirits, Sturbridge, MA.

Poured into an imperial pint glass, formed a 1/2" white head over the crystal clear golden brew. Head bubbles down slowly, with sporadic chunky lace. Aroma is balanced, somewhat generic.

Taste is lightly sweet to start, balanced through the middle, lightly prickly, moderately bitter to the close. Smooth mouthfeel, and drinkability is awesome. Pretty close to what I would expect from a rep of the style in its original land.

Pure bourbon nose. Strong whiskey flavor like a barley wine.

16.9oz bottle poured into a snifter.

A: Pours a hazy golden amber with a white head on top. A bit too opaque to see any visible carbonation. A touch of lacing on the sides of the glass.

S: Initial malty aroma lends a bready and carmely character. The hops lend a bit of citrus and spiciness. Touch of alcohol on the backend.

T: Well balanced mix of maltiness and hop flavor. Starts off with that sweet bread like malt flavor before giving way to a mild hop bite.

M: Very smooth and easy drinking. The finish on this is very crisp considering the amount of flavor in the brew.

Overall certainly a great representation of the style. A nice malt profile that doesnt overpower and a hop compliment. Can always trust Jacks Abby to brew up a good lager.
