Notes/Commercial Description:
We honor our Pops with this beer. His vision built the Leisure Time ice brand decades ago and inspired us to build Jack’s Abby as a family business. Leisure Time Lager is brewed with wheat and a blend of spices including lemongrass, coriander, orange peel and chamomile. A subtle spiciness balances the citrusy and floral hops added to the whirl and hopback. Relax and enjoy! Leisure Time Lager uses locally grown wheat from MA.

Poured a hazy straw hue with a one finger foamy white head. There was decent retention and lacing.

The smell featured light esters and a grassy hop.

The taste offered a more pronounced ester with a chewy wheat malt and nice residual grassiness.

The mouthfeel was toward the fuller side of the style.

Overall a tasty and unique beer.

12oz bottle to pint glass.

Pours a particularly unattractive, murky, almost dirty, cider color with a small head that dissipates quickly. Minimal lacing as well. Looks are not this beer's strong suit.

Mild aroma, floral hops, honey and bread. A vague suggestion of spice, but which ones are unclear in the nose. Kind of an odd flavor. There's a moderate tartness that surprised me a bit, more generic bitterness from the hops than suggested by the aroma - less floral notes. There's also a slightly unappealing character imparted by the wheat, and the spices add to the overall confusion. I get the coriander here a bit but I'd have been hard pressed to pick out camomile.

This beer just seems inharmonious to me. There's a distinct lack of crispness to the experience as a whole; in the flavor and actual feel of the beer, it's simultaneously a little watery and also a little fizzy. It doesn't hit the witbier spot very effectively at all, and lacks the clean execution and lager character Jack's Abby usually delivers easily. There's something about it that reminds me a bit of a grodziske, with its mildly tart, grainy/dirty wheat flavor.

Strange beer, not one that I particularly enjoyed or would return to. I wouldn't call it "bad" but this recipe is ill-conceived for my tastes, and it doesn't really deliver as a summer refresher-type beer either.

Nice, refreshing herbal "summer" lager. Very light body with virtually no hop presence or bitterness. Pours nicely although the head diminished amost immediately and there is a slight haze due to the unfiltered processing and use of wheat malt. I picked up a subtle, non-hop, wheat / orange aroma after the pour.

There really is not much to this beer...but I thought is was very good. I killed a few of these sitting on the deck of our beach cottege in Seabrook NH. Jacks Abby is one of my absolute favorite brewers and they have a way of taking a very simple, summer lager and making it quaffable and interesting.
