This beer pours a black body with a small off-white head.
Nose immediately hits you with Peanut Butter. It’s almost like opening a jar of JIF or something at first. Big Peanut Butter attack, then followed by some waves of coffee, chocolate and fresh dark malts.
Taste is for the most part like the regular smoke and dagger. Very clean and almost porter like with a cross between that and black lager. Not as much smoke in this one (or at all), but what really hits are waves of this luscious and just perfectly balanced creamy peanut butter. There’s a very small touch of fat, and I mean that in a peanut butter oily type way. But it’s just perfect. The coffee and chocolately touches give it an amazing counter balance. Smoke starts to peak through just a tad as it warms, and gives the nuts a nice roasted peanut butter flavor. Bitterness is nice and in balance, and there’s very light touches of hops. But really it’s just a very nice regular smoke and dagger with just the perfect amount of actual peanut butter flavor to be in your face and balanced at the same time. Ends very clean.
What a cool freakin’ beer. Out of the all the different variations on Smoke and Dagger this has to be my favorite so far. The coffee was good, the chipotle was interesting, but this is the perfect combo so far. Luscious peanut butter, in your face. It’s a go big or go home sort of Peanut Butter flavor. Very nicely done.
