Poured into a Sam Adams perfect pint glass.

Appearance: 1/2 inch head, high carbonation, gold in color, clear

Smell: pineapple, rye, and citrus hops

Taste: pineapple, rye, and citrus hops

Mouthfeel: sweet start with a bitter middle that gets a touch less bitter towards the end, high carbonation, light bodied

Overall: A solid, citrusy, bitter beer that is a touch too dry for my tastes. Not a bad beer, but I feel the brewery makes way better if not just for mouthfeel alone. I wish the rye was a bit more pronounced.

Absolutely delicious. Considering the recent RYEpa kick, this kicks all their asses - New Holland's, Harpoon's, whoever. Relating to the previous review, the mouthfeel is definitely a noticeable trait. Lacing is perfect, the head there as well. Smell is lights out: pungent, floral, citrusy. And then the rye, the rye, the rye. Love it if you love rye.

Pours a nice bright golden color with a dense white head. Powerful lemon notes overwhelm the nose at first before the more resiny hop notes come through. A bit of the malt comes through with just a slightly sweet note but plays second fiddle to the hops.

Surprisingly tart with the signature lemon twist of Sorachi Ace. Light peppery note and a nice cereal grain flavor add some balance but the really do most of the work. Citrus and pine and just the right amount of bitterness. Overall, this lager certainly packs a nice hoppy punch with a nice clean and crisp finish that really helps showcase the hops.

poured from a 500ml bottle into a pint glass. bottled august 2012.

a: straw color with a subtle haze. fluffy white head stays for a while and settles into a thin lacing.

s: hop forward aroma with citrus and pine notes. a light bready malt note is there too.

t: reminds me of a hoponius union with a slight rye bite. tons of citrus and tropical fruit hop flavor with a good dose of resiny pine bitterness. malts are all there but the rye isn't quite as notcible as i thought it was going to be. adds a nice spicy bite to the palate but not much more than that. this is by no means a complaint.

m: nice mouthfeel. finish is a tad try.

india pale lagers continue to impress me. all that crazy fruity hop flavor from sorachi ace, columbus, cascades and armarillo. i was surprised to find out theres no citra or simcoe in there. i really don't understand why there aren't more on the market. keep up the great work, Jack's Abby!

Poured from the bottle into a Chimay goblet.

Appearance: The beer pours a slightly cloudy amber color with a golden hue. There is a half finger of fluffy off white head that leaves a small layer on top of the pour.

Smell: I'm getting a pale lager yeast smell with some rye spice and mild hops. Reminds me a bit of a hoppy pils.

Taste: Lots of rye here along with a nice citrus peel hop note. Just enough malt to be noticed but the hops and spice are the star. The finish is quite bitter and that overtakes the other flavors.

Mouthfeel: The body is medium with tons of fluffy carbonation and a dry finish.

Overall: This was a solid hoppy rye beer. Good balance until the finish. I'd have more if they do it again.
