500ml bottle poured into a Pilsner glass.
A: Clear golden-yellow. Tall, creamy white head doesn't give any ground. Lacing leaves tiger stripes down the glass.
S: Hop scents are delicate, floral, perfumey, and mildly citric. Wildflowers and freshly squeezed lemons- definite Sorachi Ace. Faint whiff of ruby red grapefruit in the background. Mild spiciness, slight black pepper. Sweet honeyed and bready Pilsner malts. Highly aromatic, but in a soft, refined, and elegant manner.
T: Grassy and very floral and herbal. Rose petals and cedar. Lemon juice. Rosemary and sage. Moderate bitterness. Rye contributes that trademark spiciness on the mid-palate. Malt tastes then soften a bit and start to reveal some sweet pilsner malt. Black pepper and spices. Another wave of hop bitterness brings an oily, herbal bite with it. Very clean tasting. Finishes with a dominating oily, spicy hop bite and drying rye.
M: Medium bodied. Firm malt backbone. Smooth and creamy. Carbonation pricks at the tongue.
O: Yet another remarkable beer from Jack's Abby. This one has a kick to it. It shocks the taste buds a bit and certainly challenges the palate at times. Very herbal and very spicy. I love the use of Sorachi Ace. I'm captivated by this hop strain of late. It's so exotic and bold. It steals the show a bit with this beer, but I certainly didn't mind. It works well in tandem with the spicy rye and pilsner malt. A very creative beer.

Poured into pokal
A: Golden sun yellow with large, creamy, off white head. Leaves large amounts of spider web lacing.
S: Spicy rye, with underlying notes of tropical fruit hops. Hint of bubblegum from the Sorachi Ace.
T: Rye spice and tang right up front, and an assortment of hop flavors following. The Sorachi Ace flavor is most dominant, with its tones of bubblegum and hint of dill. Cascade hop flavor is lurking around as well with flavors of pine resin. Not much in the way of malt flavors except for the overwhelming rye tone.
M: Relatively clean on the palate and ever so slightly viscous. Moderate to little carbonation.
O: Quite a unique beer, let alone a lager. The Sorachi Ace threw me, as I was expecting this beer to be relatively straightforward. Props of JA for taking this beer in a different direction and making it one-of-a-kind.
