Notes & Commercial Description:
Beer added by: PeterIngemi on 09-20-2012

This beer is retired; no longer brewed.

Using 100% locally-sourced ingredients, this lager features hops grown by our Mom and Pop on the family farm in VT, and MA-born hops too. Malted barley and unmalted spelt and wheat provide the finishing touches for this all-local brew. A mild, earthly hop aroma mixes well with malty cereal notes. Not to be confused as an extra hoppy beer, this is a nicely balanced and pleasantly hopped lager.

Pours a clear medium golden color with a bone white head that slowly dissipates to a cap. Smells of sweet and bready pilsner malt with a bit of a freshly cut grain aroma and a hint of floral hops to round everything out. The flavor is bready and pilsner like with a bit of cracker and sweetness that lets you know there's something just a touch different here. Spicy earthy hops provide a balance in the flavor. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet slick mouthfeel. Another great lager from Jack's!

Excited for another offering from these guys. Poured into a standard pint glass.

Pours yellow, clear and clean. Slight lacing with minimal head.

The aroma is all lager. I detect a bit of Budweiser here, with a bit alcohol sharpness and a touch of damp basement. It's all mild and not as off-putting as it sounds.

The taste is not the hop wallop I expected, what with hop cones occupying much of the front of the label. This is a very standard, mostly average pale lager. It has a solid body, and showcases their lager yeast quite nicely. There is very minimal hop impression here. I detect a touch of banana and a bit of ricey-ness. I'd say if you want to sample what a good, solid standard lager tastes like, this is a decent representation. But it doesn't quite meet expectations.

Bottle poured into a shaker pint.

A: Pours with a finger of soapy, sudsy white head. Color is a slightly hazy, dark gold. Nice lace, retains with a half inch.

S: Lots of earth, barley malt, cereal, and an overall clean graininess. Mild citrus lingers in the back. A very clean lagery profile, but not in a bad way by any means.

T: Bready, doughy malt upfront. Lots of toasty, cereal grain and a nice earthy, grassy, and mildly citrusy hop. Very clean and fresh flavor profile.

M: Medium, smooth body. Carbonation is good but not overly zingy. Its a very refreshing beer.

O: Another lager done right by Jack's Abby. Don't expect it to be anything like Hoponious Union however, this one stays a bit more true to the APL style. That being said, its a solid, clean, refreshing beer and one that might be a good intro to craft.

Big ups to celticfutblclub for this!

A- Pours a dark golden with a good amount of head and lacing, lets go with a half inch

S- Immidiately declares that it is a lager, which is not a bad thing by any means. Lots of malts and just a touch of hops. Looking forward to tasting this one

T- Very interesting I'll give it that. Lager yeast and pale malts are the big hitters here. Tiny pick of hops in the end. I like maltier beers so this is going well with me

M- Super smooth, best part of the beer

O- Really glad I got to try this one. Nothing amazing but its a unique style

Thanks Alan!

September 2012

Read the description and the style here, people. Just because Hoponius Union and RIPL Effect are big hop-bombs and this is labeled as a "Wet Hop Lager" doesn't mean they're supposed to be the same beers. This is an American Pale Lager, after all. Although I was surprised by the first sip because I hadn't read the text on the side of the label, this is still a very fine brew.

A: Golden-yellow in color with a bubbly, tall, white head leaving behind no lace or retention.

S: Straw, hay, earth, barn, cereal grains, lightly roasted malt, and a hint of hops.

T: Similar to the nose. Cereal grains stand out but it doesn't detract from the beer. It's part of the style. Faint hop finish that leaves a pleasant lingering aftertaste.

M: Properly carbonated, full of flavor, and a easy to drink. That's how Jack's Abby does it. Sure this beer doesn't stand up to a hoppy IPA or wet-hopped Pale Ale, but it's fine for what it is.

O: As far as the style goes, this is top notch. Recommended.

Pours a light, hazy golden yellow with a fine head. Has a very doughy aroma with hints of lemon, mold, and bog. Lots of cereal grain in the mouth, bordering on rice cakes. The hops take a back seat here, and really compliment the maltiness.

It's a well made beer, though personally not one of my favorite Jack's Abby beers.

Bottled in September 2012 and consumed less than a week after it hit shelves.

Appearance- Poured with an abundant sized effervescent head that diminished fairly quickly to leave a very marginal halo of foam. Pale golden, no evident sediment

Smell- Dank hops, bread dough, pears, a bit of must, citrus notes

Taste- Starts with a bit of floral hops, which fade fairly rapidly into a decidedly sweet, bready finish. Almost no bitterness at first, but slowly builds as you drink and it warms. Fairly plain taste, but not unpleasant.

Mouthfeel- Smooth in the mouth, but a bit thin in the body. Carbonation level is nice, just shy of prickly.

Overall- Although it's not labeled as such (that moniker belongs to Jabby Brau), this is one of the best "session" beers I've had. It's abv is pretty much right there too. It goes down very easily, and the as-you-go bitterness keeps the beer interesting until the bottom of the glass. This is the opposite of a sipper, I found myself continually taking gulps.

Pours a golden straw color with a beautiful bright white head on top. Aroma gives off a nice malty and slightly sweet grain note underlying a nice floral and slightly spicy hop note.

Light and crisp on the palate with a tasty cereal malt character thats balanced well by the fresh earthy and herbal hop flavors. Not quite as much punch from the hops as I would have liked but still a pleasant and very drinkable lager.

Very fresh, bottle is dated September 2012.

A: Pours a hazy golden with a good sized fizzy white head. Fades away somewhat slowly, leaving moderate streaks of lacing on the glass.

S: Lots of sweet cereal grain and a bit of earthiness. A little bit of sharp sulfur in there. Mild and simple.

T: Fresh grassy and earthy hops mixes with more cereal grain. Sweet in the middle but a little bitter and drying in the finish.

M: Medium bodied, a little sticky.

O: A very mellow lager from Jack's Abby. It's very simple, pretty much cereal and some mild earthy and grassy hops. Similar to a mild english pale ale. Very fresh, refreshing and drinkable.

a: poured from a typical JA 500ml bottle into a rock art pint. golden in color with a bit of haze. white head that slowly settles into a thin lacing

s: skunky hop aroma, but i dont mean that in a bad way. you can also get some notes of grain in the nose

t: earthy hop flavor but not too strong (not supposed to be like it says on the label). still getting that skunky hop flavor but i enjoy it. its definitely not due to age or mishandling. it was bottled on september 2012. great complex malt profile. cereal like grain flavor. enjoyable and balanced all around.

m: well carbonated.

reminds me of a good euro pale lager but earned some extra points for all those local ingrediants. thoroughly enjoyed this one but could see how some may not. recommended if your a big lager fan like me.

Poured from a .5lt bottle into a dfh snifter

A: pours a very nice hazy golden orange with half a finger of white head that leavs some nice lacing.

S: the most prominent notes I get are cereal grain Malts and a touch of earthy hops, I was hoping for a more hop forward nose, even though the label warned against that...

T: taste is much like the nose here, lager yeast notes and lightly toasted cereal grain along with some earthy hop notes

M: light medium body with medium Carbination.

O: was not a huge fan of this one.
