Pours a clear, deep, orange/amber color with a huge bubbly beige head that takes forever to recede. Smells of sweet bready caramel with a spicy, earthy, mineral edge to provide some balance. The flavor is quite sweet which threw me a bit until I noticed that the beer is named hopbock not hopback. Sweet caramel toffee and bready with a spicy earthy hop flavor. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet spicy mouthfeel. This is a nice hoppy bock style beer I really enjoyed it.

Poured into pilsener glass. Translucent reddish orange with a huge white head that fades slowly leaving spotty lacing.
Smells of spicy piney hops and lesser nutty malt.
Taste follows nose, but in better balance. Bitingly bitter hops over top of nutty cracker malt.
Mouthfeel is clean and crisp.
Overall this is a tasty hoppy lager.

12oz bottle poured into a tulip.

A: Pours a clear amber with an off white head on top. Not much visible carbonation. Leaves some lacing on the sides of the glass.

S: Very pleasant aroma going on here. Loads of fresh hops dominate the forefront

T: Balanced flavor leaning toward hoppy. Malts are solid providing a base for the hop to flower from. Citrus and piney hops with a bit of a spicy character too. Lager qualities still shine. Bready toasty quality comes out more as it warms.

M: Light to medium body with fairly low carbonation. Bit of a nectar like stickiness from the hop but remains crisp upon finish.

Overall I'm very impressed with this one and will certainly be headed back for more. I've always liked malt forward yet hoppy beers and this combines those with a lager base that is superb.

1 pint, .9 fl oz of lager poured into shaker pint glass.

A-Pours a hazy walnut brown. 1 finger off-white head. Appealing color.

S- Raisins, cherry, plum, dark currant, fig. The smell is intoxicating, very nice.

T-Raisin again, bisquit malt, bready, sweet but not cloying, moderate to heavy bitterness but not puckering.

M- Full bodied, moderate carbonation. Everything you would want is here.

O- A very tasty brew, 10/10 would buy again. Would like more flavor on the hop side, the malts shine here.

12 oz. bottle poured into a chalice.

Appearance - Hazy reddish brown body. Big off-white head. Leaves remarkable sticky rings of lace. Thick collar and layer of foam.

Smell - Grapefruit hops. Musty pine. Nutty caramel and brown malts.

Taste - The malt profile is dynamic. Starts off with a light sweetness and grapefruit citrusy flavor. Turns much deeper and nuttier later. Full dark caramel sweetness in the middle and a bitter finish balances it out.

Mouthfeel - If I think amber lager, it's heavy. If I think bock, it's medium and just right. I was looking for something a little crisper than this, but that was just my mood deciding what to drink.

Overall - Just on the cusp of too heavy and malty. It turned out to be pretty good, despite not being what I expected at all.

Growler poured into my new Jack's Abby shaker pint.

A -- Beautiful amber color. Alternatively brown, orange, or red with different lights. Small head but decent lacing.

N -- Piney/resiny hops mostly. Hint of caramel or toasted malts.

T -- Boom. Hoppy AND malty AND pure deliciousness. It's a little bit spicy with hops, but they are mostly of the pine note style. LIttle bit of citrus i thought sometimes, but I couldnt quite place it. Malt sweetness on the backbone.

M -- Nice mouthfeel on this one. Good carbonation, especially out of the growler. Good bubblage.

O -- I really enjoy this for the late fall/winter months. Warms you up with a good alcohol content. Cheers!
