Consumed 5/14/13

Appearance: Light copper from a distance, more of a dark gold when held up to the light - lightly hazy, pours with a gigantic, off-white head - fades to a nearly solid, creamy cap, leaves some serious streaks of lacing - prettiness confirmed

Smell: Holy dry-hopping, Batman - very hoppy, with loads of pine, citrus, and dank weed - fleshy orange, grapefruit - tropical fruits - resiny pine - grassy, herbal notes, and weed - an earthy spiciness that smells somewhere between mint and cilantro (if such a place exists) - some light caramel malts in the back

Taste: Sticky, bitter pine - almost as hoppy as the aroma, with a load of sticky, wet pine - citrus comes next, with some fleshy orange, tangerine, and grapefruit - some more tropical fruits - some oily, sticky citrus rind and pith, too - earthy, grassy, floral - very bitter, but not palate destroying (but palate damaging) - the lager base is here, and it's very lager-y - pale mats, with some spicy yeast

Mouthfeel: Medium body, very smooth, nicely carbonated, oily and sticky with a a lingering bitterness

Overall: Just easy as A-B-C (do the dance, do the dance)

Best consumed while listening to Justice's D.A.N.C.E. (potentially on repeat). This offer from Jack's Abby is pretty ridiculous. It's extremely hoppy, borderline abrasively bitter, but in the end it's still a lager. I'm glad I picked up a bottle of this.

Bottle opened on 4.21.13
Dated 03.29.2013

A - Pours a cloudy medium orange with a huge yellow-light tan head with good retention and nice lacing left on the glass.

S - Lots of citrus, orange and lemon mostly followed by some hop pine.

T - Orange peel, then some grass and pine, a touch of alcohol heat.

D - Good carbonation and a medium body.

O - Hoppy citrus and pine with more alcohol and flavor than I have ever had with a lager.

500ml bottle poured into a snifter.

A: Golden in color with a mild haze. Four fingers of creamy white head retain insanely well. Foamy rings of lacing stripe the glass.

S: Intense starfruit and pineapple. Wet leaves, earthy, slight pine resin. Lemon zest and tangerine. Tropical esters. Bursting with tropical aromas. Pilsner malt almost gets lost beneath the hops.

T: Explosion of tropical fruits. Starfruit, tangerine, lemon zest, pineapple, honeydew melon, kiwi. Hop tastes shift and go dank and piney, herbal and spicy. Bitterness builds and becomes formidable. Peppery. Malt base is biscuity with a slight toasted edge. Gripping spicy hop bitterness lingers on a long finish.

M: Medium bodied. Very full and firm in the mouth in that classic lager sort of way. Creamy. Prickling carbonation.

O: Impressive. Much of the hop flavor spectrum is represented in one glass. A hop-head's delight.

Served on-tap at Lord Hobo in Cambridge, MA

A: Pours a clear deep golden yellow in color with light to moderate amounts of visible carbonation and some apricot + orange highlights. The beer has a finger tall fluffy white head that slowly reduces to a large medium thick cap, a very thin film covering the remainder of the surface of the beer, and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Strong aromas of citrus/grapefruit/orange, pine, and tropical/mango hops and light notes of caramel sweetness.

T: Light flavors of bready malts and a touch of caramel sweetness underneath the strong flavors from the hops. There are strong flavors of citrus/grapefruit/orange, pine, and tropical/mango hops. Moderate to strong amounts of bitterness which fades slowly.

M: Medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Moderate amounts of dryness in the finish.

O: Wow, I can't believe this is an American Imperial Pilsner as I would have sworn it was a DIPA. This was a very good beer and I would love to be able to get this easily where I live... unfortunately I was only able to get it while visiting Boston on vacation. Totally recommend this one.
