Tap

Pours deep amber, white lacing.

Smells of piney hops and light toasty malts.

Tastes of biscuity malts and mild piney hops. Some honey and citrus.

Fuller body with light tingles of carbonation on the roof of the mouth.

Nice flavorful ale, very good and something I will probably come back to.

Pours a rusty orange color with a nice finger of sea foam white head, which dissipates slowly leaving nice lacing down the pint glass.

The aroma is pleasantly strong. The citrusy hops of orange and grapefruit and pine hit your nose. There is a slight caramel sweet malt presence.

Taste follows the nose with the citrus notes and a wonderful hoppy, piney bitterness. It drinks smoothly and relatively dry. It's full-bodied and well-balanced with an appropriate level of carbonation. You don't even really notice the 7.X% AVB. (Good thing I limited myself to 2 of them!)

Overall, this is another excellent IPA. Reminds me a lot of some "west-coast" style IPA's, whereas some of Helltown's IPA's I've had have felt more "east-coast." But, that could just be me. Regardless, for a small operation, Helltown is turning out some impressive beers, in the hoppy-style I prefer. Nicely done!

Rock solid offering, more in the balanced malt variety of IPAs than their Insidious or Idle Hands but equally well crafted. Pours a copper pale slightly hazed body with abright white speckled lacing forming on the sides of my pint glass at Mad Mex Robinson. Aroma has a pungent citric and floral hop nose with a balancing mild booziness abv clocked in at 7% if you're interested. Malt breadiness a touch of caramel/crystal malt action to candy coat the hop additions. Flavor wise I liked the upfront bitterness, with citric peel, layered with some earthy herbal hops. Mild sweet bready malts interplay perfectly with the hop profile, you can't tell me this stuff isn't super drinkable. My glass was empty before I knew it, medium bodied slightly slick with hop oils gracing the palate. Moderate carbonation just well made enjoyable beer to come across, I'm sold at this point I don't care if says Helltown on the tap handle I'm drinking that.

At P.J. Whelihan's served in a pint glass. Beautiful copper color, with a quickly dissipating head. Lacing hung in there. Big hop hit on first taste. Very we'll made American IPA. Gonna have a couple while Im here. Hope to see more of this brewery in the eastern PA area.

Had a 4 dollar pint pour at the Beermuda Triangle (New Ken)

A - A nice full pour produced only a 1/4 inch of head atop of typical golden amber hue beer.

S - Smells pretty balanced and inviting I get mild citrus and pine hops and typical sweet and crystal malts.

T - Well being impressed by the Devious and enjoyed the Mischievous I can say that Rapture was a very solid IPA offering. Sure you get bittering hops but it plays with the sweet crystal malts in a way that it never gets too cloying or bites the palate. Not saying it's the best IPA but it was pretty good.

M - Light to medium a very easy drink despite what ABV it was.

Overall I liked the Devious more and will seek out others for an IPA fix. Sorry guys!

I had this beer on tap at Canal Street Pub in Reading, PA. The color is gorgeous. There was no foam whatsoever and the lacing dissipated quickly which was disappointing but this beer still packs a ton of flavor!

Carbonation was very good.

Smell & taste were fantastic with obvious sweet ripe citrus & apricot immediately noticeable and lingering well on the tip of the tongue after each sip.

Mouthfeel is very good and satisfying with No disturbing flavors popping up.

Overall a very good summer IPA that I could see myself ordering a few at the bar. will try to get a sixtel to have at home. Very Drinkable at 7.00% ABV. Highly recommended!

Pours a hazy orange color, with a small off white head. In the aroma, big orange citrus hops. In the taste, starts an orange citrus hop and a bit abrasive to a pine hop that is smooth. A small hop bite and a medium bodied mouthfeel, with a small hint of dry hops, again citrus to pine. Quite a spectacular beer with a nice mix of hops.

On tap at the Rivertowne Inn Verona the other day.

The beer pours a somewhat light copper amber color with good head retention and lacing. The nose is likewise fairly attractive, as I pick up some sweet malt, light tropical fruit and considerable grapefruit. If anything, this beer tasted even better than it smelled, as there was plenty of grapefruit and hoppy goodness, that almost compleleted dried out the modest swetness in this beer. Mouthfeel was medium bodied, and the beer had a fairly long, moderately bitter finish. Alcohol was very well integrated into the flavor profile, and I thought drinkability was pretty high.

While perhaps nothing extraordinary, I thought this a very solid, very enjoyable beer from this new to me brewery.

Helltown : The Rapture IPA
Beer Menu stated 7% ABV

Pours a dark copper bordering amber. Well retaining sticky head providing a soapy lace down the glass. Aroma is full of citrus, grass and caramel.

Upfront there is a strong hoppy bitterness, aggressively so. Pith, earthy herb, pine and grass make up most of the hop flavor. The malt backing is formidable to balance the hops, has a medium-ish body full of caramel and slight toasted note. Finishes bitter sweet with a pinch of alcohol as well.

Mouthfeel: Medium to full bodied, bitter semi dry oily hop finish.

Overall: A pretty intense IPA, and a good fresh local option. The darkest of the IPAs from Helltown, broadly in the east coast style. Try the Insidious IPA for more of a west coast feel.

Draft offering at pipers pub served in a nonic. The brew appears a burnt copper color with soapy suds of frothy lace coating the glass from the tan cap.

The aroma includes an abundance of caramel malt and herbal hops that almost gets a sort of candy-like set of aromatics about it which is strange yet unique and enjoyable.

The taste is grassy and sweet with toffee and caramel. It is somewhat vegetative with a focus on something more like candy and less like malt. Not a terrible thing, just unexpected.

This is a medium bodied brew with a modest amount of carbonation. Overall not bad and worth a try but also not that good to make me want to have it again.

Dark for an IPA. Quite clear.

Barrage of hops for the nostrils. Mmmmm

LOADS of bittering hops. This one lingers after presenting its complex hops. The malts are noticable without getting in the way of the hops.

Definitely hope to have this one again. It's an intense and bold IPA that all too many in the style fall short of.

pour is a hazy copper with off white ring. The nose is very nice, extremely citrusy with loads of fresh oranges and a balance of syrupy pine light behind. The taste is much of the same. Big citrus, sticky pine, fresh meaty oranges, light bitterness. Feel is smooth, a hint oily, good carb, a touch syrupy mid palate. Very reminiscent of 2 hearted.

Appearance: Arrives with a clear copper color capped by an inch of foam that leaves sheets of lace

Smell: Pithy with tropical fruit and piney tones

Taste: Tropical fruit (papaya and mango) forward with building pithy tones; very bitter, in the middle, with just a hint of residual sweetness on the tip of the tongue

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: A very nice but sharply edged IPA

Whew. Super hops. Strong pine nose. Extremely strong and pungent flavor profile. Loads of pine resin with a robust earthy tone and a somewhat salty thing there as well. Strong. Very much a punch in the mouth and very earthy. Frankly, I could do with a bit more of a rounded edge and distinct character. But for what it is, it's good. Very strong.

Glad to try yet another Helltown brew. Next!

T - Pine, orange juice, mango, grapefruit, lemon, sweet caramel malt, just awesome
M - Clean and bright, a little chew to it.
O - Legit IPA, bursting with lots of fruit flavor and aroma.

Apperance is a bit orangish but primarily golden. about a finger of head. perfect lacing stuck to the pint glass like hash marks on a ruler

Aroma is a bit like running over a case of grapefruits with a lawnmower (this is a good thing). Very hop forward-nose

Taste: quite possibly the best IPA I've ever had. Very hop-foreward, grapefruity, bitter, slightly orangey. You can barely notice it but there's a little bit of a malt backbone but not much. Main event is most definitely hops. Dry hopped out the ass. The further back, the more hops

Mouthfeel is sticky, resinous, full of delicious lupilin and hop oils. Makes you smack your lips. Very dry yeasty note.

Finish is grapefruity hops all the way with a bit of dry, bready yeast character.

Overall it's better than Fat Head's Head Hunter which took silver at GABF. I had them side by side at tasting called Beer and Gear fest in Ohiopyle, PA in June. This beer is a hophead's dream!
