From the bottle into a pint glass

A: deep dark brown, almost no head, and what is there gives way quickly.

S: the aroma is molasses, caramel a bit of coffee and malts.

T: similar to the smell, but the coffee is bit more there. Oddly I am reminded of cherry twizzlers too.

M: thin with medium carbonation. A bitterness is also present.

O: consider me underwhelmed with this beer. I usually love a brown ale and I think I would pass on this one if it were offered to me again.

Bottle: Poured a clear dark burgundy color ale with a medium size foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of light residual candi sugar with some caramelized malt. Taste is a mix between some caramelized malt with light molasses and some residual candi sugar. Body is maybe a tad below the average with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Not bad overall though I though this was lacking in ester and subtlety.

Poured from a 341ml. bottle.

Appearance: A dark brown, definite red tinges and a good 4-5 fingers worth of creamy foam. Lots of lacing to go around.

Smell: Strong malt, nutty, caramel, roasted grains and the bottom of a coffee pot (not in a bad way).

Taste: Mix of some dark fruits, nut shells, slight chocolate and some spices in the finish. Some wood and creamy coffee.

Mouthfeel: Starts out thin a bit and grows out a bit more robust in the finish. Some bitterness reminiscent of coffee. Good but could be better.

Overall: This was a hard one to classify. The website calls it an ABT/Porter and will it does have traces of those, it semed to fit more in the brown ale category. For the ABV it has, would have expected a fuller body. Still, this is a good effort and it doesn't drink like 10% at all.

341 ml bottle into a shaker pint. Label declares that this is Lot 4.2. Not sure what that implies.

Look- Deep burnished brown, two fingers of head, sticky looking, lacing rings the glass.

Smell- Olives, most definitely. Not particularly unpleasant, but odd. Strong burnt caramel, cherry liqueur, almond, swirling brings out a more maple-like aroma.

Taste- Similar to the nose, almond, bright stone fruits, the subtle hop bitterness is subtle indeed and only makes itself known with a light herbal flavor in the aftertaste. Sweet, significant residual sugar with a vanilla/toffee flavor.

Mouthfeel- Smooth, medium body, creamy with a bit of unexpected dryness towards the finish. Lighter than expected. Not boozy at all for 10%, although it coats and sticks a bit.

Overall- It's alright, you wouldn't know that it's 10% and it's got a few nice/interesting aspects. It's somehow not quite right, however - what I interpret as an unpolished homebrew experiment feel with too many slightly off characteristics. I can't really recommend it, as I decided fairly quickly not to finish it.
