American Pale Lager |  6.50% ABV

Availability: Year-round

Notes/Commercial Description:
Though fuller bodied than most lagers, this is a true American Lager- stored cold, or "lagered", in our brewery until it has reached perfection. This beer is defined by its crisp, clean flavor, caramel color and refreshing bitter notes.

Thanks to match1112 for the BIF beer.

Pours a medium orange amber, quite hazy, with one finger of off-white head. Good retention and lacing. Doesn't exactly look like a pale lager to me, so I'm not sure if the BA style is accurate. Darker and much cloudier than I'd expect, which has me intrigued. What is this beer?

Smell is faint, grassy (on the malts and hops, I think), with a pronounced lager yeast snap. Also has a very light musty melony aroma, like a hint of Belgian yeast. Interesting. Still not sure what this thing is.

Tastes like... a beer. Having a hard time pinning anything down. It's definitely crisp, and clear-flavored, by which I mostly mean unflavored. It takes a long time before the grains hit me, and they're followed by just a touch of spicy herbal hops. Then that odd musty character again. But everything I'm describing has to be drawn out, like a fisherman drawing on in on line that's a little too light.

Feel is good. Medium-light body, feels fluffy but has a bit of weight. Carbonation is a steady buzz, picking up right when it hits my mouth, and not dropping off until the flavor does. Gently drying, and crisp in the finish. The best part of the beer, IMO.

Not bad, but not great. Doesn't have a whole lot of flavor, of any kind. Quite sessionable, but somewhere in between refreshing and flavorful. Needs something - oomph, better balance, just something.

On draught at the Brewhaus, this local pub is in the shadow of the Old State Capitol where the presence of Lincoln was known.

Two finger head on a murky colored beer

Smells: Lager yeast, a little lemon

Taste: lemony, grassy, and grainy

Mouthfeel: Moderate

Overall, this is a solid beer from an all right brewery. I may have to track it down in a six pack.

Bottle courtesy of match1112. Thanks Matt!

It pours a murky rust colour, has a +1 finger head of foam, and has a lot of sticky lacing.

The smell is of sweet caramel malts, bread, and a very light hint of hop bitterness.

The taste is bready, grainy, sweet, with zero bitterness. The more I sip, the bigger the bread; kind of like NB Fat Tire on steroids without the nutty character.

A good mouthfeel and is okay in drinkability. It's a good thing I like malt forward beers or else...

Bottle (2012)

Thanks, match1112!

A much darker appearance than I would have anticipated: a hazy brown with some floating sediment and a moderately sized very light khaki colored head. This leaves the glass relatively clean on the way down. Atypical for the style.

Sweet grain and bready aroma, along with cereal malts, though it lacks any of the dirty dish towel aroma I despise in many beers of this style. That's definitely a plus.

The flavor was similar to the aroma, with cereal malts, mild hop character, some grass, and bready sweetness leading the way. For the style, this was really nice.

Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

Tasty and drinkable especially for the style.

The American Lager from Rolling Meadows was a decent beer. The color was a nice amber with white fuzzy head that left a spotty lace. The smell was typical of most pale lagers....malt and slight hop. The taste had a good hop kick...more bittering hop than flavor hop. I seamed to sense pear type flavors. Themouthfeel was medium body with great carbonation. Overall it was a decent beer.

On tap at Brewhaus in Springfield. Pulled from a blown glass tap handle with dried hops inside of it. Served in a shaker pint.

Lightly hazy, saturated orange color, with rising streams of visible carbonation. A fingers width of lasting white foam sits on the surface, leaving copious lace in concentric rings as the glass is sipped. Good retention, nice color, with a rustic unfiltered look.

Mild smell, light graininess, fairly basic and nondescript.

Flavors of vague crisp apple, a hint of hop spice, lightly herbal, husky pils malt flavor in the middle. Dry and crisp, light bodied. A basic clean lager, simple with a mild noble hop character. Overall a good crossover brew for Springfieldians with macro tastes. A good warm weather beer, for outdoor activities and barbecuing.

also picked this bottle up at the farmers market where the brewer himself was pedeling his product. everything about this beer is typical for the style. appearance is a golden yellow with a finger's worth of head that left rather quickly, although it left a good amount of lacing on the glass. smell is of sweet cereal grains and syrup. taste is also sweet and grainy with virtually no hop profile to it. mouthfeel is a light to medium body, kinda watery. no bitterness and no aftertaste. overall this is a good representation of the style that many people enjoy. nothing special to set it apart from the rest, but not that horrible either.
