A - Pours pitch black with an eighth inch, beige head.

S - Smells delicious, mostly of dark chocolate and a hint of coffee.

T - The taste, unfortunately, doesn't follow the nose as much as I'd like. It's a bit one dimensional as the roasted malts dominate. There are some hints of bitter coffee and chocolate in there as well. Charred aftertaste lingers for a while.

M - Definitely the right body for an imperial stout. Thick, but not to the point of syrupy, and nice carbonation.

O - This is definitely a solid beer. Not one of the best imperial stouts I've had but it gets the job done. If there was more nuance in the taste it would help the score quite a bit. It's definitely worth a try.

Deep, dark brown color. Plenty of ring and spotty lace, but the head is relatively small. No light shines through the edge of the glass.

Plenty of mocha, Baker's chocolate and black coffee to the nose. There's a good dose of cream to the smell as well.

This stout leans to the coffee notes. I detect some chocolate malt but it is well behind the black patent malt. The swallow is dry with a bit of alcohol warmth. The taste reminds me of the intensity of deeply roasted coffee beans. Short aftertaste, surprisingly. The mouthfeel is pretty typical of the style.

A--Pours jet black with nice, creamy head. Dissipates slightly fast, but leaves excellent lacing. The head rebuilds quickly with a swirl of the glass and gets thicker.

S--Smells slightly sweet with hints of roast and chocolate.

T--This is where this beer takes off. More flavor than the nose would indicate. Lovely mild chocolate flavor, followed by a bit of roasted malt, and finishes with a tongue-coating full chocolate flavor. Absolutely delicious! A little more roast/coffee flavor would be nice, but as a chocolate stout, you couldn't ask for more. Luckily, I've gotten my hands on a few bottles and have had them over time. Definitely ages very well. Going to try to find a few more of this first batch to try again in a few months or over the next year. I think it would be worth the investment.

M--Great body on this beer. Not as heavy as say, Founders' Breakfast Stout, and definitely not as light as an Irish stout. The body fills out if you let it get a little warmer. Mid 40's is perfect. All the flavors come out and mouthfeel is excellent.

O--A great beer. I've had it on draft and in bottles and its really an excellent beer. Seems like they could use this for many different variations, a la Founders' and Goose Island.

A - Arrived with about a finger's worth of brown head. It retained well, but not forever. Thin skimming of head remains and leaves some spotty lacing on the glass. The highlight? There was a candle on the bar and whenever I took a sip the candle projected ruby highlights through the blackness. Fantastic.

S - Nothing significant here. Mostly roasted malt.

T - I loved it. Not overly complex, but maybe that's why. Finally I get to enjoy a stout that doesn't have that burned coffee taste. Just a hint of sweetness, and dominated by roasted malt. The sweetness is something of a dark, bitter chocolate flavor. No alcohol flavor, but just enough heat for you to know that this has a punch behind it.

M - Fantastic! Full-bodied. Little bit of a carbonation feel, but impossible to see that. Mildly dry finish with a bit of a tingle on the tongue. Lingering flavors, but finally in a good way!

O - Best stout of any variety I've had to date. Can't recommend enough.

My 2nd time having this. Updated from a 3.75 'Had' rating.

Black pour, beige head. Solid retention and decent lacing.

Smell delivers dark+milk chocolate, caramel, bread, light roastiness. Brownie. Good.

Taste loses some potency from the nose, but still solid. Chocolate dominates the taste, with roasty and bready tones on the back end. Kind of a milk stout vibe in a way.

A little light on the mouthfeel with medium carbonation. Not much alcohol presence noticeable.

A simple but solid RIS, I would gladly drink this whenever.
