Thanks to mjg0725 for this bottle in a recent trade. 22 oz. bottle, batch 1 of 2 dated December 2013, split with my wife.
Pour is a orange juice with about 81% of the orange sucked out of it, opaque. The polite nose is orange zest & citrus with a side of sweetness. If this is where we're headed, this is the tamest riot I've ever experienced.
Riot on the surburban Fawning Deer cul-de-sac, perhaps, but the local mall security guy can handle an outbreak like this. There's a nice bare ass-slap of bitterness right up front, but the crowd goes mild from there. Plenty of Aldi fruits: that orange zest, tangerines, a more general mash-up. Unfortunately there's too much of that dank, earthy hoppiness that grows as it warms. I know lots of people like it, but I'm not a fan of loam in my beer. Drinkability begins to tank as the dirt works its way between my teeth.
This is right on the border of a beer that I'll actually drink rather than tip into the sink. Way too much dankness spoils some pretty nice nuances. Sub-mediocre.
