Nice murky yellow/orange with a big white fluffy head and gobs of lace. Nice retention too. I've had saisons clear up to a skim on me -- not this one. Pretty beer.

Yeast and some white pepper and coriander in the nose. No surprises, no sharp edges.

Nice combo of flavors. Raw grain, some lemon, husk bitterness, pepper, coriander, leading to long bitterness. The best way I can describe the flavor is that it is big on potential-- then relaxes. An odd wave here. Bitter and dry toward the end. Very good, but not great - if comparing to many others presenting this style.

Mouthfeel is medium body with nice tingly carbonation.

It is a dry saison, and the lack of any fruit might be off-putting to some, but I like this. It also lacks a bit of muscular bite, but still quite good. I'd have this again.

Pours a murky golden color with a couple fingers of white head. Intensely citrusy with lots of lemon peel and orange aromas. Nice and yeasty with a bit of bread and cracker malt. A mild spiciness and a hint of melon. The flavor is slightly sweet, and has a more pronounced spiciness, particularly coriander. The lemon character is pronounced and there is a touch of white pepper. Good bread malt base and plenty of yeast.

22oz silver wax-dipped bottle served in a snifter.

translucent burnished gold pour yields a 2" frothy white head; average retention and lacing. decent nose good offers a fruity/yeasty presence out of the gate along with some spice and candi sugar.

flavor follows the aroma fairly closely. citric with apple and pear a bit of spice and a touch of candi sugar. it is on the sweet side but not overdone. medium bodied mouthfeel with some zesty carbonation.

overall, a very nicely done saison: tasty, interesting - bit of a different spin on the style - and enjoyable. doesn't move the eath but i'd welcome another glass.

A - Giant, rocky, white head. Brilliant gold color with loads of visible carbonation.

S - Peach and apricot fruitiness, coriander, tart cider and a fresh yeast character, much like the taste of a fresh yeast starter. Awesome combo of aromas!

T - A cider-like flavor stands out, along with malted wheat, bark, slight cinnamon and overall spiciness. Green apple flavor, too.

M - The mouthfeel really makes the beer amazingly drinkable. Light to medium body, fairly dry with creamy carbonation.

O - The flavor is just slightly 'green,' but otherwise a great beer. Dry, yet creamy; a great spicy, cider-like character, which still retains malt flavor. Another great addition to Boston's new local brews!

On tap at the Flatbread Company, Somerville MA. The beer has a very pleasant tan color with a small head. The mouthfeel is very crisp, with slight carbonation.

The highlight of this beer is the very prominent apple finish which is enhanced with a cheese- based food such as pizza.

I would like to taste more fruits and yeast overtones this Saison. This is a good beer and offering it in the winter on tap is a plus.

Bottle from awesome girlfriend from a Boston bottle shop. Waxed bottle... and an awesome brass knuckles in the top on the cap of the wax. Never seen anything melted into the cap wax before. Nice!
Pours a light mustard color with a 2 inch head and some decent lacing.
Nose is a lot of lemon grass with a little bit of farm yard in it... almost a bit of brett nose.
Taste... is actually quite boring. Almost everything drops out, the lemon, the funk, all muted, but still there. Everything is toned down. Really disappointed in this. After all the reviews I was excited to try this.
Mouthfeel is quite nice... very creamy finish, mouthfeel is one of the best I have had in a saison. medium body.

overall though. disappointed.

Poured from a 22oz. bottle into a tasting glass.

The color is a hazy orange/gold with some nice foamy white head and some nice lacing left on the glass.

The smell is fruity with some slight pear that is sweet in the aroma. There is a nice funk aroma that comes up as well with some slight bitterness holding the background.

The flavor of this beer has some nice grassy flavor that is ripe with some nice juicy flavor that comes out after touching with some skin flavor. The juicy flavor holds for a second and then lets some bitterness in and it takes control. There is almost a hop blitz but there is a nice yeasty flavor that is a slight Belgian flavor that I was looking for. Then bitter hit at the end. Nice.

The feel of this beer is big but only for the complex flavors. There is some interesting fruit flavors that also carry some big bitterness that is there for a moment to take control but then slides right into the background. This beer is drinkable and has a great feel to it that is warming and somewhat spicy at times.

22oz silver wax-dipped bottle served in a snifter.
bottled 11/2011 / batch 2

pours a brilliantly clear burnished gold tone while yielding a finger and a half of sudsy white head. middling retention and lacing. pretty beer, despite the average head.

nose is good. fairly fragrant, offering several distinct fruit elements (citrus, apple, maybe a little grape), some spice, and yeast.

flavor follows the aroma fairly closely. citric with apple and pear - more pear than i picked up in the nose - yeast and a touch of candi sugar. sweet but nowhere near cloying. spices are evident (particularly pepper), but also not overdone. medium bodied mouthfeel with some zesty carbonation.

overall, a very nicely done saison: tasty, interesting, and very drinkable. i wouldn't put it up there with the upper echelon of the style, but still one i will gladly revisit. recommended.

Tap at kinsale in Boston.

Nice creamy head fades semi slowly with thick lacing, hazy golden color.

Nose saison, farmhouse, light yeast, light spices, rustic earthy malts, light citrus and fruit like apple and pear, light grainy malt.

Taste similar, juicy fruits, apple, pear, touch of citrus, light esters, dry farmhouse, a weird wheat like creamed wheat flavor, maybe oats? Light spices, bitterness, touch floral and lemony hops. Dry bitter finish with light spices.

Mouth is med bodied, decent carb.

Overall not bad, decent for typical saison, nothign really wrong, except a weird oat or cream of wheat flavor in the middle. Otherwise tasty.

First off, I have to admit I bought this just for the bottle. Nice gray wax dipped bomber with a black label and a set of brass knuckles on it. It looks mean so it must be good!

A: A hazy golden pour. Frothy white head. Good lacing, retention is decent as well.

S: Quite fruity. Pears at first. Fairly sweet. Lots of spice. No funkiness or barnyard smells (thank you Backlash).

T: More pears. Some grass perhaps? Spiciness is abound but not overpowering. Peppery for sure. Tastes like rye? Interesting, never had rye in a saison before. Almost no bitterness but the spice does provide a kick. Alcohol well hidden. No real indication as to the typical belgian yeast with the normal banana and cloves. Very different saison.

M: Pretty smooth mostly but the spice and rye provides a nice tingle. Perhaps a tiny bit of dryness in the aftertaste.

O: Very unique. If you like rye and you like saisons you will probably like this. Definitely not your typical saison, clearly not a "classic style" belgian that's for sure. I gave it extra points here because I really liked the originality. Most saisons tend to taste very similar (and almost boring, quite frankly).
