Poured chilled in ale glass chez White

A: light straw color; medium head; lots of floaties; very good lacing
S: Belgian style yeast is most prominent; aroma is a bit sour, not very inviting
T: bitter, estery, not wel balanced; needs a bigger malt profile to match the aggressively sharp flavors that dominate;
M: buzzy, quite nice

Not a great specimen of the IPA (my favorite in the genre is Raging Bitch)

22oz brown bomber with no freshness date.

LOOK: Golden orange hue is slightly hazed over, thick three fingers of head sticks around for a while and leaves some rings on the glass.

SMELL: Peppery, chalky, orange zest, peppermint, estery, kiwi, Asain pears, bay leaf, shortbread

TASTE: Smooth, bitter, phenolic, orange rind, parsley, tobacco, green peppercorn, mandarin orange pulp, toasted bread, grassy, bitter and dry finish.

A very straightforward ale. It's bitter, has the Belgian thing going on and it goes right after the palate and slaps it around a bit. Love that the bitterness is amped up more than others within the style and still retains a pretty aggressive hop flavor at the same time. Phenols are fine where they are at but I would think it they more prevalent it might prove to be a more cumbersome beer to drink. With each sip it grows on me a little bit more.

A: dark orange body with a thick fluffy white head that leaves a beautiful lace along the sides of the glass
S: grapefruit, orange, lemon, spicy pepper, pine, hint of bready malt and if you search for it, alcohol.
T: as the nose depicts with a focus on the citrus notes
M: effervescent yet light body and sweet but drying to the tongue.
O: this beer and CBC'S audacity of hops is giving me the reason why I am switching my palate over to belgian pale ales. Definitely get this if you can!

Batch 1
Bottled December 2011

Pours a light orange golden color with a really really huge white fluffy head, this happens after taking off the annoying wax on the bottle, head fades at a wicked slow rate and leaves a good deal of lacing on the glass, bit too much head though considering how slow it takes to fade.

Smell has a good amount of citrusy hops, dash of grapefruit, surprising amount of hops considering the bottle is over 4 months born, caramel malt backing balances the aroma.

Taste starts out with citrus hops which quickly fade as the caramel malt begins to show its character, decent carbonation on the tongue which lends a soft mouthfeel, body feels a bit thin and watery though, clean bitterness as part of the aftertaste.

Worth trying, not sure I'll get it again but it definitely makes me want to try their other beers. Very promising.

I had this at the November Baltimore BA tasting. Served from the bottle into a tasting snifter.

Appearance: The beer pours a slightly cloudy golden amber color with a quarter finger of white head. The head fades to a layer on top of the pour.

Smell: This is a very herbal and yeasty IPA. The smell is quite light with a slight citrus fruit note. The hops add the herbal note along with the yeast, but they're not very prevalent otherwise.

Taste: This one is light and rather mild. I'm getting some citrus peel hops along with a herbal note. I'm also getting some fruit other than the citrus peel. The finish is bitter, but not overly so.

Mouthfeel: The body is medium with lots of tingly carbonation. The finish is quite dry.

Overall: This one was alright with enough going on to keep you interested, but nothing stuck out and made it exceptional. I might have another, but wouldn't search it out in the future.

On draft at Russel House Tavern.

Dark amber, minimal off white head.

Mildly spicy nose. Not that much hop aroma. Was this not dry hopped?

Flavor is dull. Seriously lacking in hops. The whole beer rests on the belgian yeast profile. Soapy slightly bitter finish. Grapefruit rind. Abv is somewhat unnoticeable. It felt over carbonated and a little too dry.

I've had this at a couple festivals and I thought it was somewhat different then but it wasn't something that did much for me then. This might be a batch variation. The belgian ipa trend is sort of played out. I'm not really sure this beer has reached what it is trying to be anyways.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into a tulip glass.

A: The beer is a deep gold color with a large off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick but spotty lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains Belgian yeast, floral hops, citrus and caramelized malts.

T: The taste starts out with a strong burst of floral hops that is quickly followed by bready flavors of Belgian yeast and a hearty but not too heavy malt character. There is a mild citrus and caramel sweetness that comes in to provide some balance as the beer warms a bit. The after-taste is slightly bitter.

M: Crisp and a little smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, good kick, good representation of style, this is a solid beer but there are better beers in the style.
