This is a brand new beer bar in the upper Kirby district. As I walk in there is an island bar with tables on the right hand side and booths on the left. A few TV's turned to sports that do not get in the way and low music is playing.
Here is where things get a little strange. The establishment continues back and turns into an arcade. The bathrooms are towards the back along with the kitchen. The kitchen is semi open with left over food pilled high in a waste basket. I don't really like that set up. The sight and smell of old food and cheesy arcades. Anyway the front half is enjoyable and relaxing.
The service is mixed. The first bartender was into beer and new her stuff. Though a bit slow, which is not a complaint. Though she clocked out, and the new bartender was obviously new and did not have any help. I don't hold it against places when new staff is working, but they need to have someone else there to help. Not the bartenders falt, more on the owners.
Food is typical pub grub. Nachos, wings, a few pizzas. I had a burger cause nothing else really sounded that good. I saw my meal sitting on the counter when it was ready, and tried to flag the bartender. Though nobody picked it up. It just sat there for a very long time. When I got it, the burger was not cooked right either. Why ask if I want a burger cooked a certain way when it is just going to come out well done? A very strange after taste as well. Like they do not clean the grill well.
Anyway on to the beer...Plenty of taps. Around 30 or so. Many are good craft beers. Locals like Real Ale, Southern Star, Independence, Saint Arnold, and Live Oak. Some of the more popular crafts like Stone, Deschutes, New Belgium (including Lips of Faith). They are also installing a hand pump and are planning on doing rotating casks. A couple more taps rotate. A nice bottle selection as well. Some BMC. Though overall a very good selection and the quality of the beer seemed fine.
Overall, I want to give this place a few more trys. I love the selection with plenty of locals. Though they need to keep training some of the staff, and a better menu.
Selection has gone down hill, service is suffering, the newness has worn off and so has this bars drive to serve a quality product. I gave it a couple of tries, and did not live up to the expectations I had.
