Slightly hazed orange body. Bubbly ivory white head. Lacing is quite abundant. Juicy hop aroma with juicy fruit tones and citrus, grass, cannabis, caramel and pine. One of my first thoughts when I tasted it was "balanced" until I remembered that the bottle said it would kick me in my hop sack if I called it balanced, so let me explain myself... I'd rather not have to wear a cup while drinking this beer. It's nicely balanced for an IPA and that is meant as a compliment. That doesn't mean that malt and hops add equal parts to this beer. Just that that the malt provides a nice sturdy presence behind the facades of hop flavors and bitterness. Hops give the beer much flavor and complexity. Resinous characteristics. Pine sap and grass. A little smokey mary jane. Clean bitterness. Quite drinkable and flavorful.

Serving glass: Poured from bottle into Nonic Imperial Pint.

Appearance: Nice orangish gold with decent off-white head and slight lacing.

Smell: Citrus (orange predominately, some grapefruit and tropical notes), some spiciness and toasted malt.

Taste: Similar to the aroma, this is very citrusy, with grapefruit, orange and a tropical tanginess. There is an expected toasted malt backing, with a spicy and pine-like finish.

Feel: Soft and creamy body with moderate carbonation. Finish is quite dry, as expected and desired.

Overall: This is a fairly prototypical IPA, but done exceptionally well. Nice job. Great to have another quality IPA made in MN.

Poured from 22 oz. bottle into a Sam Adams "Perfect Pint" glass.

Appearance: Pours a bright and clear copper amber orange with a lot of rising bubbles. Big four finger off white head with good retention. Leaves a lot of lacing around the glass.

Smell: Big aroma of fresh hops all around. Big hints of citrus grapefruit, orange peel, mango, apricot, lemon, and pineapple. Some earthy, grassy hops and a little pine resin spice. Caramel and pale malts in the background with hints of toffee and biscuit. Very hop forward and juicy aroma. Really good.

Taste: Big juicy hop taste like the nose previewed. Big upfront kick of ripe and nicely bitter citrus hops. Big notes of grapefruit, oranges, apricot, mango, pineapple, and lemon. Also some earthy and floral hops along with a decent hint of spicy pine. Solid backing of bready pale malts with notes of biscuit, caramel, and toffee. A really good tasting West Coast style IPA, (or as the bottle says, Northwest).

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate level of carbonation. Creamy, juicy, and fairly smooth. Finishes dry.

Overall: A really great first take on a American IPA from this new brewery. Really impressive. Great citrus esters.

Clear copper pour, nice 1" white head on the top. Not much for lacing or retention. Aroma most impactful is that of Cascade hops, imparting the quality of grapefruit.

The usual caramel in the malt body, sturdy enough. Not overly done or woody, not simply a beer dropping mad bitterness, there are discernable green hop tones in it while maintaining a very nice dryness to the beer that allows the C hops to keep rockin'. A pretty solid IPA, that there's umpteen examples that taste eerily familiar. If it ain't broke don't fix it. Steel Toe delivers a good ipa, following the lead of many trailblazers years and decades before it.

Would definitely drink again. Seems affordably priced, thank you to the generous trader who threw this in.

22 ounce bottle is beautiful with a pale amber copper colored hue flowing with an off white beige head going on. Aroma is super citrus with grapefruit and other big boasting hop loads coming through. The flavor is awesome with citrus, creamy notes of malts. More hops implode into citrus hop bursts, it goes down very smooth with sugar coated hops, each flavor adds to the pine citrus hop flavors. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with even flowing carbonation on the hop palate. Mouthfeel is citrus sugar coated with even hop oils rolling off of the catbonation, overall I love this style of beer the type of beer that I want to experience the real thing with.

I've been waiting try this since the day I found out a brewery was opening up practically in my back yard (barely a five minute walk).

Poured from a 24hr old growler into a tulip.

Pours a nice murky, orange-ish, gold. A nice pillowy head rises a solid two fingers or more. As is dissipates a nice amount of lacing is left clinging to the glass.

I'm greeted by a heavy dose of citrus and pine. Very well blended, some grapefruit, fresh cut christmas trees, some floral notes as well a light sweet malty-ness.

The flavors mirror the nose nicely. Right up front there is the hop bite with sweet fruit flavors mixing in with resiny pine. A mellow sweetness lingers in the background... Aftertaste is distinctly sweet grapefruit.

Crisp, dry and bitter. The carbonation is right where it needs to be. As bitter as it is, it is not harsh on the taste buds.

Steel Toe is off to a great start, I may be a little biased or maybe I just want everything to be good because of my proximity. But I've tried all three of there offerings and shared them with others, and everyone has been impressed so far. Keep up the good work!

Poured from a 22oz bomber into a shaker pint.

Clear orange peel liquid capped by a faint ivory surface slick. The collar pearls up leaving a soapy ring of lace in its wake. Decent retention.

Pungent hop aromatics suggest oranges, apricots, and a hint of pineapple. Light honey in the nose as well.

Pine and grapefruit on the palate - peppery herbaceous hops permeate the flavor profile leading into a crisp dry finish. Moderate bitterness is offset by a low key pale malt backbone.

Creamy yet prickly mouth-feel, light bodied yet appropriately oily.

Well crafted version of the style...and at $5/bomber, a good value as well. Were this more widely available I think it would be more sought after.
