Pours a dark clear copper color with a two finger foamy tan head with very nice retention and lacing. The aroma has grapefruit, caramel malt, and some dark roasted malt. You can really smell the grapefruit as soon as you open the bottle.

The taste is just like aroma. The grapefruit taste from the hops is the star here, but the caramel malt plays a strong supporting role, and there is also a light amount of dark roasted malt in the background. Mostly has a bitter flavor, with a little sweetness in the background. Gets a bit sweeter as it warms.

Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Creamy, smooth and easy to drink, with a bitter grapefruit aftertaste. This is a very nice Red Ale. I would gladly buy this again.

Poured from a 22 ounce bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: Pours a deep dark amber with minimal cream head.

Smell: There are notes of pineapple and caramel, a good amount of hops nicely balanced with malt.

Taste: There is bitterness up front, the hops want you to know that they are there. Lots of grapefruit and citrus, but it slowly fades to sweetness, caramel and toffee with a little bit of sour/bitter finish.

Mouthfeel: This is an easy to drink beer for an imperial red. Enough carbonation to make it interesting, but not so much that it overpowers the beer. Nice medium body with lingering flavors of caramel and spicy citrus.

Overall: This is the first beer I have tried from Steel Toe Brewing, and I look forward to trying more, this is a great beer, lots of flavor and character in every sip.

From Steel Toe:

When you find yourself parched, Rainmaker brings refreshment. Brewed with caramel and dark roasted malts then doused with a torrent of hops, this double red is sure to please, no dancing required.

Color: Copper
Alcohol content by volume: 6.5%
International Bitterness Units: 65

A clear and deep amber body with a creamy head of dark tan foam that leaves sticky curtains of lacing down the entire glass. Just an awesome two finger thick streak of crystalline lace that clings to the glass the entire time.

Robust and fresh hops provide plenty of citrus along with some earthy notes. Sweet malt to back things up.

This is one hopped up red ale. Lots of hop complexity as well. Getting bitter grapefruit with other citrus notes, some spicy hops as well. Good deal of bitterness and the malt only adds a touch of sweetness. The hops do the shining here though.

The carbonation is so creamy and soft. The overall feel is quite smooth. I would put this in the medium bodied category.

Just another great beer from Steel Toe. This red ale fits right alongside the Size 7 for West Coast hop inspired beers. This is one of the better ones I've had in this style and it's due in large part to the awesome hop profile. Easy to say that I will grab this one again.
