Thanks to Pawola22 for sending me this bottle.
The beer pours an orange-amber color with a white head. The aroma is full of pine and orange notes, with a little bit of resin and some biscuit malt. The flavor is similar, being dominated by pine and resin notes from the hops. There is also some biscuit and toffee, as well as a medium amount of bitterness. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Poured from a 750 ml bottle into a Surly Darkness Chalice. 2013 bottle.
Appearance: Pours a deep copper amber orange with a moderate amount of bubbles. About two fingers of off white head which recede into a thin creamy layer. Leaves a good amount of lacing.
Smell: A big and rich aroma of hops with lots of citrus, earthy, and spicy hints. Big juicy and oily smell of hops with earthy, floral, and citrus hints. Hints of grass and dank pine resin spice. Citrus fruit hints of grapefruit, orange peel, tangerine, mango, pineapple, apricot, papaya, melon, and lemon. Solid sweet malty background with hints of caramel, toffee, grain, biscuit, and yeast. Also some hints of candied sugar. A very big and juicy hop forward aroma. Quite good.
Taste: Follows the nose quite well, a huge lush and juicy taste of hops with citrus, pine, and grassy notes. Big citrus hop presence with juicy notes of ripe grapefruit, orange peel, mango, tangerine, pineapple, papaya, apricot, lemon, and melon. Spicy notes with some dank pine resin hops. Also some floral and grassy notes. Hops are pretty fresh, bitter, oily, and drying. Solid malt backing with notes of sweet caramel, toffee, biscuit, grains, and yeast. Taste is very hop forward and nicely thick and juicy. Very good.
Mouthfeel: Full bodied and fairly thick with a moderate amount of carbonation. Juicy, oily, bitter, and pretty drying. Alcohol is hidden behind the assault of hops.
Overall: A great imperial IPA. A juiced up version of an already very good IPA from this young brewery. Steel Toe knocks it out of the park again.

2014 Version: Getting back to the good times with this beer. The melon attributes are not really as expressive as the original version, instead we get some good floral, tropical fruit, and then melon aromas and flavors. Also does not seem as harsh as 2013. Much easier to drink. I would put this between 2013 and 2012's.
2013 version: Not nearly as impressive as last years edition. Now Size 11 is very close to Devil Dancer which is unfortunate. Gone are the melon aromas and flavors, and in their place is straight citrus. Seems much more bitter without the great hop flavors. Very hot and boozy as well. I would rate this years significantly lower.
A 750ml bottle picked up at the brewery yesterday.
Pours a reddish copper color with one finger of head that held on for a nice length of time before settling to a thin cap. Moderate amount of spotty lacing is left on the glass.
Fairly unique aroma comes with this beer. I pick out honeydew, cantaloupe, with a little citrus. No sign of the alcohol.
Melon bomb. A Size 11 right up the backside. Massive amount of honeydew hits the tongue along with the 111 IBUs of bitterness. There is a little dankness near the end. It has a little sweetness from the malt but otherwise hop/bitter dominate. Some warmth in the finish but the whopping 11% ABV is not otherwise tasted. Impressive and very interesting flavor.
Another fine mouthfeel from this brewer. He has it together when it comes to carbonation and texture. Medium bodied.
Hard to compare this to another beer. I suppose Devil Dancer is the closest thing in IBUs and ABV. Devil Dancer could not carry these Size 11s. Maybe not as sublimly executed as Pliny but it is a close contest. One glass and I am feeling fine. Cannot wait till next year for Size 11 to show itself again.

2013 release: Dried mango and papaya flavors, slick and resiny, very fresh and hoppy. When fresh its better than Devil Dancer, imho. Scores up across the board.
Bright and saturated copper orange color, nice clarity, copious light tan foam that froths up to the rim of the glass and slowly settles, leaving behind arcs of drippy lacing in the glass. Over time the skim fades to a ring around the edges.
Sweet and fruity aroma, somewhat suggestive of cantaloupe or melon. Some caramel malt sweetness there also as it warms up.
Fruity citrus rind and resiny pine bitterness, smooth cantaloupe notes with a dry bitter finish that lingers nicely. A warming spicy note from the 11% abv, though it's not too overt in the taste. It's got a nice smoothness with a medium body and low carbonation, sort of a sticky nectar thing happening. Overall a nice DIPA that i'd recommend to hopheads for sure.
