Notes/Commercial Description:
Like a campfire in a glass, this robust beauty has seductive notes of vanilla, smoked cedar, and mulling spices on the nose. A dark pour with mild lacing, she is a rollercoaster of lush chocolate and fig fruits diving into a semi-dry finish of toast and biscuit.

Appearance- Dark stout, but more on espresso americano than a dark brooding storm, very thin lacing, but not really expected for this beer.
Smell - TO be honest, there wasn't much of an aroma at all. This is the problem with most of the beers at DBC that aren't IPA's. You would expect a hearty, spicy, of even smokey smell based on the name. Don't buy the hype. None of that is present. If anything, coffee aroma is present and I agree with somebody that said burnt toast.
Taste - Taste is flat. And let me give a date (5/18/2014) I feel that the batch beers might be extremely inconsistent. Alcohol levels are not listed for the individual beers for example, and I think it is because they don't know. Their process is not that refined. The taste is not robust, it is soft and feels like an introduction to porter. Kind of an apology at best. Accessible to those that want to say they drink more than IPA's and they really like beers of all kinds, when in truth they don't. Comparisons: lighter than a Pipeline Porter (Kona Brewing), not an espresso or coffee or smoked porter at all. Very water and thin taste.
Feel - watery, thin, and flat. Very little after taste, but the bitter does come through.
Overall - For what seems to be one of their most established beers, I would say this lacks punch and flavor. Overall disappointed and would not order it again.

Side note: this location is a place to have a beer outside on a nice day, and to bring your dog and hang out. It's not so much about the beer. BTW, this beer is their only GABF awarded beer. Can't really tell you why. If visiting Denver, be sure to stop at Great Divide first and don't judge us on this one. (Denver Native)

A peculiar flavor that goes downhill, and not in the usual Colorado way. Dark brown, not much of a foam, though adequate carbonation in the mouth. Interesting aroma of burnt toast.

This starts with a slightly sweet mellow note and descends into a darker, dishwatery region. I guess you can tell your taste buds it's graham crackers. Seems to get oddly bitter like juniper twigs. Surprising winey flavor full of tannins. Not pleasant, and leaves a medicinal aftertaste. On tap at the brewpub in lower downtown Denver.
