"Blind Ascent Dark IPA." Served on-draught into a 5 oz taster glass at the Denver Beer Co. Reviewed from notes taken in July 2012.
A: Pours a half finger head of light khaki-white, okay cream and thickness, and poor retention (less than 30 seconds in duration). Colour is a very dark caramel-black. Nontransparent; non-opaque, No yeast particles are visible. No bubble show.
Sm: A light aroma of dark malts and vague hops. Hardly anything is detectable. Frustratingly weak. Not at all subtle or appealing.
T: Imbalanced hops with some unrestrained bitterness on the backend. The light presence of bland dark malts forms the pathetic foundation. Some caramel. Poorly put together. Restrained, boring, and dull. Structurally quite simple; very brief on the palate. No yeast or alcohol comes through. The finish has the most flavour, but there's still very little to it. It's so horribly muted and yet imbalanced and badly built.
Mf: Smooth, wet, and overcarbonated. Too thick for its lack of flavour. Doesn't suit the flavours all that well.
Dr: Too damned simple, overcarbonated, and boring to make me really want to finish this glass. I'm glad I got the taster glass and not something more substantial. I wouldn't get this again. A very mediocre black IPA.

this is a tough review/rating. It's a good beer, but it seems more like an old English porter (although I wasn't around to try those out). Labeled a Black IPA, this beer has a robust coffee and toffee aroma. Dark chocolate comes in and goes out. Hops are bity in the nose
The malt dominates...for the most part. Hop flavors are subdued and earthy. A pinch of citrus. It's a fine beer with a sturdy bite on the finish. The sharpness of both the hops and coffee will get your attention
