Black, chocolate, and caramel malts give this ale the deep dark color and robust flavor with hints of coffee and chocolate. But it is the addition or flaked oats that gives it a velvety, smooth texture as well as a slight sweetness.

22 oz bomber bottle.

With a very aggressive pour, I am able to coax a thin, creamy head that seems to snap away until it settles to a solid layer and seemingly stays well. The body is a dark brown color, verging on black.

The smell is faint, but offers light aromas of roasted grain, wet malt, and tin. Even gentler suggestions of coffee and chocolate, but those are barely featured at all.

The flavor is confusing. I just drank a Moo Thunder (or at least tried to...) and thought it sucked so much that I had to move onto something else. I was surprised when I took the first sip and this was somehow worse than that. It tastes off to me. Th flavor is very thin, watery, and somewhat earthy. The roasted malts get almost completely lost here, but thankfully do show up in the aftertaste just a little bit. Otherwise, I am not sure that I would be able to tell this was a stout. Up front is a strange and unwelcomed fruitiness, reminiscent of blueberries. Across the palate, it makes almost no impression. There is almost no bitterness, and almost no sweetness either.

I understand English Stout's to be somewhat (or even A LOT) less agressive than an American Stout, but they shouldn't be downright watery. This boasts oats? Something that should help boost body and smoothness? But neither of those qualities exist here. I might call the body smooth, but the carbonation is so weak here, that smoothness has nothing to do with the body, but more to do with the water-like quality of this beer.

A poorly executed stout, and one that needs a lot of cleaning up.

Poured into a pint glass a black body with a nice tan head which lingers. The taste and aroma are of chocolate and roasted malt, the coffee accents mentioned on the label seem to be nonexistent. The mouthfeel is smooth, but nothing spectacular. Overall, this is just an average stout.

I poured this beer into a pint glass, it has a nice black body with a 1" tan head that hangs around for a while. The aroma is light of chocolate and roasted malt. The taste is the same, nothing special. the mouth feel is ok and overall a average stout.

A very good Stout without the bitter taste of some stouts. The bottle reads... A robust oatmeal Stout with flavorful chocolate and coffee accents; Wild Oats is brewed with 10% flaked oats. This full-bodied beer finishes off with smooth and balanced flavor and aroma.

I did not read the the description before trying it and did not really pick out coffee or chocolate accents. It did have a very pleasant roasted smooth taste though.
