Right on the main drag in Bird In Hand-cant miss it if you do you blinked. Features a wine shop downstairs and the brew pub on the 2nd floor. Wine shop features tastings, wine, and a ton of wine related books, items and gifts. 2nd floor brewery area is wide open with vaulted ceilings and a decent sized bar-no stools-and maybe 15 tables or so. A lot of wood grain decor, growlers lining the walls, clothes line with t shirts for sale. We were the only ones there, maybe 30 mins before closing. When we went back the next day there were maybe 1/2 dozen folks either there or passing thru-none of which seemed to stay for long for whatever reason.
There were 6 different beers on tap at my visit. Pale, IPA, oatmeal stout, red, helles and a blonde if I remember correctly. All were decent efforts with the oatmeal stout and helles as my standouts. My first visit i had a flite of the 6. On our return I had a pint of the oatmeal stout and a helles. Growlers-they will fill anybody's, 4 packs and 22 ouncers to go as well.
Service-and this sort of falls into the atmosphere-was a bit odd. Our first night the young man at the bar was very pleasant, but once we started talking about this and that, he began to tell us about every car he has owned, how each was wrecked and what it all had cost him and was worth. The 2nd night we went back it was maybe 90 minutes before closing. I ordered a beer and we sat at a table enjoying the nice sunny late day and having some popcorn. Some people came and left after a very quick pint. About 30 minutes before closing it seemed like the entire staff was upstairs and waiting for us to finish our beers. Talk about feeling rushed. My wife does not drink and I was only going to have 2 pints anyway, so as we paid the bill and headed out I noticed the wine shop was already closed and the staff from there had moved upstairs and were all standing around. They did say the first night in there that by law the taps were shut off 15 minutes prior to closing. Just a weird vibe all in if you ask me....
The menu has cheese and meat plates as well as nachos, 2 or 3 sandwiches and mainly lite fair to nosh on. Did not try the food as we had been eating all day.
Certainly worth a stop in my book for a mid day pint, growler fill or bombers to go. We were there in late April before the major tourist rush. Maybe if it was crowded it would not have been as "odd". Hell maybe I am odd. Who knows.
