On tap in a snifter.

I'm going to pass on all the categories and get right to what was wrong for me: The barrel aging imparted such strong dominant bourbon taste and smell profiles that it completely consumed the beer. It was Overhead in name only. I was disappointed.

From 11/16/13 notes. Had this on tap at the brewery yesterday and liked it quite a bit.

a - Pours a murky, nut brownish color with a few bubbles of light tan head and low carbonation evident. The barrel has muddied the Overhead color a bit, and doesn't look as good as it used to.

s - Smells of caramel malts, bourbon, citrus hops, oak, toasted malts, nuts, lemon, and light pine hops. Very nice and interested nose; the bourbon and caramel have jumped to the front, but the base is such a hoppy DIPA you definitely get some of the hops in the back end, even though they are muted. I like it.

t - Tastes of bourbon, citrus hops, caramel malta, toffee, toasted malts, grapefruit and lemon zest, coconut, roasted notes, floral and piney hops. Taste is good, with more citrus hops from Overhead more of a coconut feel from the barrel. Hoppier than the nose but still digging ti quite a bit.

m - Medium body and low carbonation. Smooth and pretty nice, with the slightest amount of heat.

o - Overall this is not a style I normally like (BBA IPA's), but this one works. Not sure if it is because the base beer in Overhead is so good, or because they used good barrels (don't know what were used but saw a lot of Four Roses barrels in the room), but I liked it. Lots of bourbon and carmel in the nose with light hops, reserved in the taste. Definitely worth checking out.

Overall good, not quite outstanding but interesting because I don't think I've had a BBA DIPA before. Wouldn't actively seek it out but worth a try if you are at the brewery

A: murky brown with a thin lace ring but noteable and impressive sticky lace that dries on the glass

S: dominated by bourbon, slight earthiness, pine, toasted/burnt sugars

T: very upfront bourbon, citrusy tang, hoppy

M: not much carb, smooth and med body. Barrels smoothed out the punch from the base DIPA
