Was lucky enough to get a pour from Glen from Kane at an event. Thanks man! This beers pours pitch black with a khaki to brown head, good looking on the eyes. The smell is a perfect mix of bourbon, vanilla, some sweet cocoa, and slight oak. The taste is even better. The sweet cocoa base with a hint of coffee hits first, before a wave of bourbon and vanilla come in. The vanilla mixes with the oak tannin flavor to make a brilliant flavor. The beer finishes smooth, creamy, and no boozy ness whatsoever. This reminds me of kbs, with some added vanilla, and a more rounded out flavor overall. I'd have to say this is the best barrel aged beer I've ever had. Absolutely cannot wait for this year's release.

Before trying the variants, I assumed the Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla Bean variant would be the best. It wasn't (that honor goes to Cacao), but this was still tremendous. Can't wait for next year's batch.

2014 Release. 750 ml bottle poured into a snifter

Appearance: Pours black with 1+ finger of a very dark tan (almost brown) head that settles to a thin collar and some wispy coating. Body is opaque.

Smell: Bourbon, caramel, vanilla, roasted malt, oak, coffee, butterscotch and a touch of dark fruit.

Taste: Sweet caramel and toffee upfront which yields to a big roasted malt character that opens up in the middle and into the finish. Throughout all of this are notes of bourbon, charred oak, coffee and a noticeable but restrained vanilla character.

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with a smooth, thick, creamy mouthfeel. Carbonation is low medium and gentle. Goest down smooth but with a gentle warming sensation in the back of the throat after the finish.

Overall: A really impressive barrel aged stout. While many vanilla beers tend to overdo it with the vanilla, my one complaint with this beer is perhaps they could have increased the vanilla just a bit more. Nevertheless though, this is a great beer that's well worth seeking out.

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter. 2014 bottle.

Appearance - Inky black. Small khaki head. Thin collar. Stains the glass.

Smell - Lots of vanilla. Sharp vanilla. Booze. Molasses. Dark chocolate.

Taste - Vanilla all over. Sharp vanilla flavor. Chocolate. Fudge. Molasses and deep caramel.

Mouthfeel - Boozy. Heavy. Medium low carbonation.

Overall - I don't think the vanilla is really necessary. Gives it a sharp flavor. Still excellent.

From 05/10/14 notes. 750ml bottle poured into my new Kane teku glass.

a - Pours a jet black color with two inches of dark tan head and moderate carbonation evident. Light lacing left on the glass. Looks like a great big stout.

s - Smells of vanilla, sweet chocolate, roasted malts, cocoa, dark chocolate, light bourbon, oak, toasted malts, bakers chocolate, cream, and sweet caramel. Awesome nose; lots of vanilla and different types of chocolate. Bourbon is light but adds some nice notes to the nose. Great stuff.

t - Tastes of vanilla, sweet chocolate, oak, roasted malts, alcohol, cocoa, toasted malts, dark chocolate, bourbon, toasted malts, cream, and burnt malts. Taste is very good with a lot of vanilla again, but more dark chocolate, and way more alcohol than the nose led on. Very good but very strong.

m - Medium body and low to moderate carbonation. Some heat to it. Better and thicker mouthfeel than last year's ANTEAD, but with that comes a stronger alcohol presence.

o - Overall I thought this was a great beer. I liked ANTEAD last year but not as much as some people, and found it very thin in body, but this year's variants seems much bigger and thicker. This one has a very good nose with tons of vanilla as hoped, and a lot of different types of chocolate, and while the taste is quite good, it is strong and the alcohol shines through in the taste. Well worth checking out, excited for the other two variants.

The beer hits of bourbon in the front, which melds beautifully with vanilla notes. The vanilla is not aggressive, but adds smooth sweetness to the beer. There's chocolate and slightly roasted coffee. A wonderful smooth bourbon flavor and balance and complex brew.

One of the best brews I had at EBF.

A-EBF sample pour. A thick, black monster. Even the small sample boasts a neat, brown head.

S-A big, aromatic stout. I do notice vanilla notes in the aroma. Bourbon oakiness. Lots and lots of chocolate, fudge and coffee. Dark fruitiness as well.

T-Heavily roasty. Mocha and black coffee. Top shelf flavors of boozy brownies and fudge. Oak and vanilla. Belgian-esque dark fruitiness is mild but I'm picking it up. Finishes with a warming sweetness.

M-Chewy with a huge body. Alcohol warms up my cheeks but it's just a welcome ingredient in the overall package.

O/D-A gargantuan Imperial Stout. It does everything right by me. I have heard good things about Kane and Im beginning to understand why.
