Notes & Commercial Description:
Beer added by: bonbini26 on 08-27-2011

Head High is our interpretation of an American-style India Pale Ale (IPA). This beer is all about the hops; we use a blend of five different varieties all grown in the Pacific Northwest. A small charge of Chinook and Columbus early in the boil adds a smooth bitterness. A majority of the hops are then added late in the kettle or post-fermentation to produce a beer that is heavy on hop flavor and aroma. The combination of Cascade, Centennial, Citra and Columbus give Head High a noticeable grapefruit flavor with aromas of citrus, tropical fruits and pine. Our house American ale yeast ferments to a dry finish that accentuates the use of imported Pilsner and lightly kilned crystal malt resulting in Head High’s straw color and crisp flavor.

On tap at Buffalo Wild Wings in Eatontown. Tried it on a whim and was very impressed. Stone IPA was on tap as well (my usual go-to) and I ordered these instead of touching a Stone. Very drinkable. Looking forward to seeing more of their brews around!

Hazy Orange, on the lighter side. A perfectly persistent pearl white blanket of head, trailing delicate lace all the way down the pint. Not grapefruit, but honeysuckle, mango and pine. Randomly found this gem on tap at the attached restaurant at the Courtyard Marriott.
The aroma is great but not amazingly difficult to find. The rare thing about this beer is the perfectly balanced body. No caramel thank god, just the slightest toastiness, with a balanced quaffable thickness. It is as if it was designed to drink at the optimum speed to enjoy these beautiful hops.

Can not wait till this is distributed in bottles and I can bring some home.

This beer is amazing!I have Pliny and Heady in my possession right now, having drank both very recently, this beer is right there with them. Pliny has more pine, Heady has a little less bitterness but in the end this beer is rocking! If you have a chance to try this brew...dont pass it up. Beer pours cloudy golden ( like Heady if you dont drink it from a can) the aroma is hops and more hops. This is a hop heads dream.

Bottom Line: Awesome, Amazing beer!

What a great IPA. Like a 60 or 90 minute, with a sharp, crisp hop front. I'd say that the citrus was more of a back taste than front, but that would make me sound like an ass. I also liked the aroma and texture. It was slightly creamy, but felt unfiltered at the same time- go figure.

Easily the best year round ipa out of new Jersey. (Overhead by Kane being the best dipa) but Kane really knocks this one out of the park. Has a nice resiny piney feel you'd want in an ipa. Can't wait til loans drop this fall

This was at the growler station at Joe Canal's in Iselin/ Woodbridge. Go get it. The initial floral smell upon popping the growler top let's you know you are in for a treat. The beer pours a hazy yellow with a very strong pleasant bouquet of citrus and hop. This is a strong hopped beer but with a very clean mouth feel that makes you go back for another sip. The finish is definetly IPA, but with a very clean crispness. This is one of the finest, well crafted IPAs I have encountered. Support this new brewery and seek out their other beers, Single Fin is also very nice.

One of the best beers I've had in quite a while.

A- big fluffy white head. Lots of lacing all the way down. Pale orange slightly cloudy color.
S- big aromas in this one! Usually I prefer the citrus heavy IPAs rather than the super piney ones, however this beer perfectly balances citrus and pine with a bit of tropical fruit and grassy hops mixed in. Fantastic aromas.
T- hops glorious hooops! IPAs live or die based on freshness and being this close to the brewery pretty much guarantees unbeatable freshness. That said, without a proper malt backbone the beer will be one note and not enjoyable...and that is NOT the case with this beer. In my opinion, it is perfectly balanced, not to mention delicious.
M- Light, not overly carbonated, soft but supremely refreshing.
This growler isn't gonna last the night. Don't miss this one.

On tap at The Fish in downtown Asbury Park.

Appearance: picture perfect, slightly hazy amber body with a 2 finger, slightly off-white head. Left a lots of lacing in the matching Kane Brewing pint glass.

Nose: Fresh hops; floral and piney. It's very much in the vein of West Coast IPAs I've tried.

Taste: follows the nose. Very well balanced and refreshing, with nice amount of citrus in there as well.

Mouthfeel: Smooth, with a nice dry finish.

Overall: Best IPA I've had from the local NJ brewers, and I think it compares favorably to the ones we can get from the West coast. If you're in the area, definitely order this one!

Pours a clear golden orange with a creamy white head. The nose is inviting. Citrus aroma pouring out of the can even before the pour. Taste is intense. Pine, citrus, green dank goodness. So smooth, crisp, insanely delicious. Way to go Kane!

Pours a beautiful hazy orange. 1 inch head with awesome lacing and retention. Smell is tropical fruits and the taste follows. Lots of grapefruit here, to me almost as much as grapefruit sculpin. Love this beer. My favorite offering from Kane, which is saying a hell of a lot. The pilsener malts really let the hops shine here. If you can get this beer fresh, it should be sought after.

Had sample at SN Beer Camp Philly

A- Pours transparent amber/copper with off-white head. Great lacing.

S-Aroma of floral and citrusy and resinous and fruity hops, some caramel and pale malts, and light dough.

T-Flavor the same as the aroma but with a strong floral hops.

M-Mouthfeel is well balanced and has average carbonation.

O-Great and very solid IPA. I must go to brewery the next time in NJ.

One of if not my favorite IPA. Very hop forward with not much malty balance. The floral fruity hop combo is amazing and at 6.5% ABV you can have a few and not worry about being intoxicated! Also not a ton of calories or carbs for those healthly people out there like me! Kane Brewing is 15 mins from my shore houses and the Brewery is amazing!! Can't wait for the 16 oz. cans to be released this fall!!!

A- Nice rich copper color, 2 finger tanish head

S-Upfront citrus with a little bit of a floral kick to it. Really great aroma.

T-The citrus hops that I smell come through initially. But, theres a great balance of malt leading towards a malty finish. Really well balanced.

M-Great body, great finish, really great IPA.

Deep orange with amber hue and thick off white head that laces great down the glass. Smell is citrus forward. Grapefruit, orange peel, light floral, mango and un ripe berry. Taste brings big grapefruit favors, light mango, little berry, biscuit backbone through the middle, un ripe melon, floral and bitter on the finish. Mouthfeel has perfect carbonation, light end of medium mouthfeel and super dry, puckering finish. This IPA is unbalanced in all the right ways and I love it!

Had on tap at CopperMine

So glad I got to try this beer a few days after the event.

The beer pours a nice hazy orange with a huge citrus nose. Orange lemon ect its all there. It has nice hops to it however they are not over powering. A nice balanced easy drinking ipa. This is dangerously drinkable. I agree with one of the reviews below this is definitely one of the best ipas I have had in awhile and its all the better that its from some local guys. NJ needs more quality brewers like this. If you see this on tap around NJ do yourself a favor and skip your usual and try this instead. You will not be disappointed.

Tons of grapefruit notes, grapefruit pith, citrus, citrus rind, tropical notes of pineapples and mangos. Just a wonderful tasting IPA all around. Super drinkable. Proud to call this a local beer. Represents NJ well. This and 077XX have become my go-to beers.

On tap at Witherspoon Grill in Princeton.

Tropical fruits and citrus on the nose with some bread

Mouthfeel is great- full, crisp, slightly creamy, but not heavy

On taste, first hits pungent grapefruit. Bitter and sweet. With other citrus, orange an tangerine. Then turns tropical fruits, mango and papaya, rich fruitiness, so much flavor. A nice, subtle smooth raspberry note comes in. Malt comes through with some sweet bread and grain, finishing with a pleasantly bitter piney lacing, again with a little more citrus.

Something you would expect out of San Diego county, reminds me of Port Mongo (if not a little cleaner..). Very very good

One of the best IPAs I've had in a while. Tremendous flavor without being overpowered by the bite of the hops -- which is all too common these days. You can really taste the fresh hops, piney, crisp, ever so slight citrus/graprefruit, and a bit of malt without being sweet. I believe this was unfiltered, adding to the rich mouth-feel and overall complexity.

Had on tap at the brewery and in growler same night
Overall this is an outstanding brew that can hold it's own against HF society 5. Initial thought was wow nose very similar with pine and grapefruit. Semi bitter with a nice citrus (grapefruit/pineapple) and earthiness. Nice depth and crisp dry finish.

64oz growler poured into a shaker pint.

Slightly hazed gold with 1/2 a finger of tight, white head. Lively carbonation.

Honey, grapefruit, tangerine, papaya, lemon and candy sugars.

Pink grapefruit juice, tangerine, papaya and lemon. Honey sweetened pale malts with notes of candy sugars. Finishes with pine resin and florals.

Medium bodied, crisp, smooth and silky.

As far as American IPAs go, this is top notch. Beautiful balance with a nice bitterness and hella-easy-drinking.

A- Light orange, white head that dissipates rather quickly.

S - Floral, Floral, Floral with tangerine and pine on the nose. Very nice.

T - Follows that nose well but with the addition of peach flavors to boot. Returning to nose I did pick up that peach/apricot as well.

M - pungent carbonation, sweet and pleasant light bitter finish.

O - I was very pleased and surprised to find this on tap. New keg tapped right in front of me! Awesome IPA, extremely drinkable with some unique subtle flavors I've not had in an IPA before. I'd put this on par with Maine Beer IPAs....that's a good thing!

This is just a damn fine IPA. Hop driven through and through... some may say unbalanced, but they'd be making a poor reference to old school "east coast" IPAs. This is a modern IPA--west coast nod if you must, but modern is more appropriate--and a really good example of one. Nice blend of citrus/pine/very slightly dank aromas and with a resinous finish from late addition hops, and assertive bitterness from hops in the boil. There are malts there, but they are clean and subtle--and limited enough to keep the ABV nicely moderate (not a session beer by any stretch, but even my pansy ass can put a few down and feel perfectly fine in the AM). Couple this with yeast that does not get in the way and clean water, and you've got a great IPA on your hands.

Tremendous IPA from Kane - the type of flagship beer you can build a brewery around. I can't wait for this to be in cans - this is definitely one to have in the fridge at all times.
