It’s finally time to break into the beers I brought home from Kane early last month. I had a little time to kill on my way from Jersey to Philly and hoped to stop in for a drink, but they were only doing to-go at the time. Naturally, I grabbed a few things. Oatmeal is a Brown Ale sounds like an interesting concept so I’m excited to try this one
Pours a dark reddish brown with 3 fingers of creamy tan head that slowly fades to a cap and leaves nice lacing
It’s sweeter than I was expecting in the nose, but still quite good and not out of balance. I’m picking up on aromas of milk chocolate, brown sugar, sweet caramel, black cherry, dark bread, toffee, and light vanilla
In taste it’s unfortunately a bit flabby, not bad but lacks definition. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting brown bread, roasty coffee, milk chocolate, brown sugar, raisin, light caramel, and earthy hops. The swallow brings notes of milk chocolate, earthy hops, sweet caramel, raisin, acrid coffee, and light grass
A medium body pairs with gentle carbonation, resulting in a creamy beer. Finishes a tad sticky with an odd fruity sweetness
I don’t hate this, but it feels like it doesn’t know what it wants to be. Unique for sure, but not in the best way

Pour cloudy dark brown, very generous creamy looking light brown head; nice thick lingering film and very generous lacing.
Nose is a roast, chocolate, earthy and grassy hops.
Taste is a even combination of roast, dark chocolate, dark toasted bread, and noticeable hoppy finish; grassy with some softer pine qualities.
Medium body, very smooth mouthfeel, dry, medium bitter finish; both roast and hop driven.

Look: dark brown with a big foamy head that slowly recedes to nothing.
Smell: lots of yeast, some sweet malt and toffee, some coffee.
Taste: a good brown ale, not my favorite style, nutty, creamy, touch of coffee, pretty good.
Feel: ample carbonation, medium bodied, well constructed.
Overall: again, not my favorite style, but Kane made it fresh so I had to try it. Nicely done beer, worth a try.

Could be my top brown ale. On tap at the Annex in Asbury Park. Great taps here. Fast burgers, able to get a table.
A Pours like a stout, with a 1 finger tan head, but not enough lace or retention. Ruby highlights in the pitch brown body.
S: Nutty, with breakfast highlights: coffee, malt, cereal, nuts, prunes. Porridge.
T: Roasted malts along with a nutty cream overtone. Some sweet coffee. Roasty nuttiness, with cocoa dust.
F: Medium bodied and carbonation. Pretty creamy and chewy. A roasty nut bar of a beer. Fresh.
O: As good as any Brown Ale including Smutty Nose.

On tap at the Office in Summit. Pours a deep, dark, mahogany hue with moderate frothing. Nut brown aroma with chocolate and espresso nuances. Light and drinkable.
