From 07/27/13 notes. Had on tap at the brewery.

a - Pours a clear bright orange color with one inch of bright white head and moderate carbonation evident. Some light lacing left on the glass.

s - Smells of tropical fruits, citrus hops, pineapples, floral hops, honey, spice, and earthy notes. Nice and hoppy, great nose.

t - Tastes of super fresh tropical fruits, fresh citrus hops, grapefruit, oranges, lemons, pine apples, floral hops, fruity malts, and some earthy notes. Some light bitterness and a ton fo fresh hops. Awesome taste, better than the nose.

m - Medium body and low to moderate carbonation. Moderate bitterness in the taste.

o - Overall a fantastic DIPA. Tried this with their Head High IPA and liked the nose better on Head High, while liking the taste of this better. A bigger, stronger version of Head High, if you like DIPA's with a little bit of bitterness in the taste this is for you. If you want an easier drinking IPA with no bitterness, I'd recommend Head High, but both are great.

Overhead pours a medium amber color, and, like all of Kane's beers, is unfiltered, providing a little haze. There's a healthy head with good retention and very good lacing.

The aroma is powerful and inviting. The many hop additions of Columbus, Simcoe, Amarillo and Centennial hops provide an aroma that is dominated by tropical fruit and citrus hops with some pine sweet malt.

The huge hop presence comes through in the taste as well, with a powerful juicy hop explosion early on the palate, balanced out with some sweet malts, grapefruit, and again, pine. Bitterness is present but not overly so; this is all about the fresh, juicy hops.

This beer is medium-bodied, smooth with a semi-sweet finish and medium carbonation.

Overall, this is one of the best Imperial IPAs, or beers in general, around. The 8.2% ABV is covered well with a powerful juicy, citrusy hop flavor that is up there with the best. If you live in New Jersey, take advantage of the fact that one of your local breweries brews this beer and keep an eye out for it.

On tap in Newark.

A: Pours a glowing sunset orange with a small white head.

S: Lots of grapefruit and clementine and leafiness with a mild hint of booze and sweet grain.

T: Taste brings bright citrus, blast of resinous bitterness, grass, surprisingly prominent note of alcohol.

M: Medium-bodied with light carbonation.

O: A very citrusy and resinous DIPA, with a lot of bitterness and a bit too much alcohol showing. I enjoyed it, but it probably doesn't deserve the very high ratings it gets.
