Pint glass at Brickwall in Asbury Park, NJ.

This beer done up and punched me in the mouth. Lots of powerful flavors, fruity piney awesome goodness. A stiff imperial IPA or whatever you call it, I don't know, I just know it's damnin good. A good hurragh and Hi Ho Silver!

Appearance: A nice orangey golden color, good white head, leaves lacing

Smell: Nice punch of hops up front, citrusy and piney, some malt notes in the background

Taste: A reasonable amount of bitterness up front, citrus and pine hops up next, followed by some bready malts in the background

Mouthfeel: Medium body, good carbonation

Overall: An excellent DIPA, I enjoy a little more than Head High, though I could drink less in a sitting.

Picked up a growler earlier today from the brewery. The beer pours a burnt orange amber with a significant ecru colored head that leaves thick gobs of lacing as I empty my glass. Smells of plenty of citrus fruit including orange and grapefruit. Nice background of mango and passion fruit. This gives the impression of an interesting balance between the old school citrus and pine American IPA and new school that is heavy on tropical fruit.

The flavor is slightly less complex than the scent. A very forward bitterness at the start that gives way to a bready malt background. Finishes with a string bitterness with a good citrus forward flavor. Mouthfeel is full with lively carbonation. Finishes with a slight warming alcohol presence.

Altogether a very good beer and IPA, but lacks some finesse that Kane has shown in some of their other beers. As a side note, their barrel aged version is much more well rounded and enjoyable in my opinion. Bringing together some of the disparate elements of this version.

About as good as an IPA can be. A good representative of the "East Coast" style. Heady, sharp taste; nice aroma; good texture and flavor. Beautiful amber color. Always a favorite in a growler to share with family and friends. Especially enjoy in a tulip glass or one of the new IPA glasses I'm expecting from Santa!

Had on tap at the brewery
A: hazy deep golden with very little head and a bit of spotty white lace
S: pine, floral, citrus rind, slight musty, earthy/dirt
T: hop resin up front, floral and pine with a bitter punch and sweet malt profile. First sip a bit punchy but tasting very good as it warms
M: fairly heavy body for style, bitter finish with flavors lingering.

Overall Very solid DIPA that is a great flagship beer for the brewery. I enjoyed the head high IPA a bit more with the grapefruit notes
