64oz growler filled at Black Forest Brew Haus in Farmingdale, NY on 10/10/09. Served in both a pilsner glass and a glass beer mug.

Dark, Black, Schvartze! I got a fluffy tan head on a vigorous pour that hung around for most of the glass and left some sticky lacing.
Roasted coffee bean aroma.
Very good tasting beer, roasted malty sweetness with notes of coffee and bitter chocolate, delicious.
Lighter bodied beer than the taste would lead one to believe, silky smooth feel.
Very easy to drink.

Pours a near black color with a dense tan colored head that settles into a chunky ring with slight lacing. The aroma is of roasted malt, charcoal/ash, and semi-sweet chocolate. The taste is much like the aroma, nice roasted malt, nothing over the top, perfect for the style. This is followed by some coffee and chocolate flavors with a slight metallic (copper) twang. Light to moderate feel, crisp, fizzy carbonation, finishes with a light roasted malt bitterness. This is a very nice schwarzbier. Nice roasted flavor yet very crisp and drinkable. I'm happy a picked up a growler of this bad boy.

Poured a deep brown hue with a one finger creamy white head. There was very good retention and lacing.

The smell featured a nice roasted grain with some touches of dark chocolate and caramel.

The taste consisted of some subtle coffee notes, some smoke and an earthy hop.

The mouthfeel was of average fullness for the style.

Overall a very good black beer. very easy to drink.

Poured from 64 oz. growler a nice black color when held to the light it appears a brownish red on the edges. Minor head and lacing.

Aroma is mostly of roasted malts, coffee (maybe some smoked aroma), with some sweet malt.

Pretty well balanced with the sweet malt flavor backed up with a dry bitter roasted malt finish (chocolate then coffee)

By the end of this growler I split with my Brother I would have preferred a fuller body or some more carbonation. However, at the beginning I did enjoy it. It was light, but not too thin.

According to the chalkboard at the Brew Haus this beer was 5.5%. And I easily enjoyed the several beers I had out of this growler with my Brother. Some people have problems drinking a dark beer all not even if it has a lighter mouthfeel and body like a schwarzbier. Just some psychological thing, but I would have no problem drinking this again or drinking this throughout the night.

This one was a free sample at the brewery. It was a lovely dark brown color, but by the time I got it there was no head to speak of.

The aroma was of rich malt, and was quite sweet. Much more so than I would have expected for a schwarzbier, but it was pleasant.

The taste was of very strong, roasted chocolate malt. Very nice. I enjoyed this one.

Appearance: Clear dark brown (almost black) with a slight reddish tint when held up to the light. Thick tan head.

Smell: Slight malt aroma.

Taste: Malt sweetness flavor up front, along with slightly roasted toffee and chocolate flavors. Good bitter aftertaste, which became more pronounced as I drank more of the beer. Enjoyable taste.

Mouthfeel: A little thin.

Drinkability: Very drinkable.

Comments: I enjoyed this beer. Some of the flavors are subtle and become more noticeable as you drink more of this (as opposed to first few sips).

Appearance: DARK brown almost black...but when held to light there was a hint of ruby color...thin dark tan head
Aroma: Slightly sweet
Taste: Sweet at first mixed with roasted malt hint of caramel and finished dry...Great flavors, however a little too sweet in the beginning
Drinkability: Once you get over the sweet taste, you can drink alot...but I just couldn't...
Overall a good beer
