A: slightly hazy copper amber under a finely bubbled 2” light tan foam collar that hugs the side of the glass.
S: Winey nose, caramel, traces of earthiness, alcohol, oak, light prune.
T: Caramel, wine, oak, fruit cake, spice, a hint of bourbon, dark dried fruit.
F: Very creamy fine soft carbonation lightens the body towards medium full.
O: This could probably last a year or two in the cellar but the bottle looked so nice I popped it open right away. (458 characters)

Pours an effervescent caramel/auburn with 2 fingers of fast falling cream colored head. Murks up a bit as the bottle drains, epic head retention & almost as good lacing

S: Raisins, plums, Sherry, plus more boozeyness as this warms

T: Follows the nose, along with some cherry & pipe tobacco, & a little candied orange slice up front. Maderia notes along with jammyness as this warms, a little bit of pear & melons mixes in with a little bit of sourwood honey. Finishes with sourmash, booze warmth & jammyness

MF: Medium bodied, low carbonation, picks up a bit when warm, body thickens up as this warms. Really warming

Pretty good, but not really worth $18 a 750ml bottle, but curiosity got the better of me (722 characters)

Corked and caged 750mL bottle from LambicPentameter (thank you!). 2014 release. Served in a Barrel and Barley teku.

Pours hazy deep orange brown with three fingers of rocky pale head. The froth settles to a thick collar, leaving large patches of lace.

A considerable barrel funk presence on the nose. Through that I detect some grain, sugars and oak.

That unfortunate sour twinge continues in the taste. Lemon, caramel, cereal grains, oak, toffee and some alcohol. There is a base barleywine in there but the barrel funk nearly masks it.

Medium, oily body with pronounced carbonation. Finishes with more barrel funk, some sugars and a bit of oak.

Woodcut 8 missed the boat for me. Rather than compliment and heighten, the base beer was almost completely covered by off barrel notes. That's 2 for 2 in the Woodcut series that I've tried with too much barrel funk for my tastes. I'm done seeking these out to try. Not worth my time or money in acquiring. (962 characters)

750 ml bottle- no. 05957-14, into a snifter.

Pours a hazy orange/brown with a slowly dissipating, medium head. Lots of foamy cling. Smell bring malt, oak, wine, some yeast, a little pepper and a fruity aroma that I can't pick out. Pretty complex smell, there's a lot more going on than my description lends. Taste leads with the malt, much more oak than the nose, caramel, raisins, wine, yeast, some sour funk. Really nice. Smooth, creamy for the style, well carbonated.

As mentioned by others, there is a lot of oak flavor here- which I like, but it's no one trick pony. I found this to be flavorful and complex. Glad I was still able to get it a year down the road. (677 characters)

Solid barley wine....maybe one of the better noses on a BW. (59 characters)

Poured on-tap and served in a snifter, the beer is a deep, caramel coloring, with an off-white head. Nose of sweet crème, vanilla, caramel, bourbon, roasted notes, and raw wood characteristics. Flavors are tropical fruit heavy forward, with a caramel backbone, heavy vanilla crème, solid bourbon notes, roasted characteristics, boozy highlights, and a molasses undertone. Very layered and dynamic. Oily slick and thick, with a boozy, richly sweet, warming aftertaste. Smooth, lingering, slightly cloying finish. This is a heavy ass beer, but damn tasty! (555 characters)
