The distinctive hop character of our 5 Barrel Pale Ale is due to the extraction of essential oils from select hops. We treat 5 Barrel Pale Ale to an infusion of fresh whole hop flowers in the Hop Back and the Fermentor, as well as four hop additions during the kettle boil. We like how this gives the beer a fresh, lively flavor and aroma.

Tried this one several weeks back, poured to a pint glass. Embossed date: 012707.
A: Billowing light tan head, just shy of two-fingers. Clear amber-color with a few streams of slow carbonation. Attractive sticky bands of lace.
S: Enticing sweet, malty smell that screams "bakery!", followed with a nice mix of caramel malt and sweet orange rind hoppiness. Initially the smell bursts from the glass, detectable from a couple feet away, then mellows quite a bit...
T: Assertive biscuit-y malty flavor and sourdough bread, lemony and lightly bitter. Hops are faintly herbal as well and the beer, overall, is grainy tasting.
M: At times, it has a sticky/gummy mouthfeel that I don't really care for. Body is medium, carbonation light - overall it has a thicker, moderately creamy texture.
D: Pretty good, I'd have this again. Flavors are solid and balance is good. Mouthfeel is a little lackluster, but this beer has other attributes that I find appealing. Thanks to both Wasatch and flexabull for sending a bottle...

A little taste of England, from Colorado. Dark golden in color with short creamy head. Aroma of hops, malt, taste is more of the same with some citrus tanginess. Nice ale.

Had on tap. Orangey golden clear pour with a white head that settles into a ring quickly. Floral and grassy notes float along the grains, citrus zest, and dry english like yeast. Taste is simpler as the botanicals outside of flowers are cut out, yeast and citrus are the other key flavors. Feel is hoppy yet sneaky yeasty, medium-light body and thinner for style.

LOOK: Pours a bright gold with a full 2 finger all white head that has excellent retention and plenty of side glass lace. Great looking pour!
AROMA: Very malty with bread and biscuit malts. Decent balance with floral hops also present.
TASTE: Balanced with some piny hops and the bread, biscuit malts.
Mildly bitter.
Overall a solid pale ale with great balance.
